Simmons Bank Credit Card - Nice Card, But Tough To Get

Simmons has boasted one of the lowest card rates in the country for many years- currently a fixed rate of 7.25%. As expected, Simmons requires an excellent credit history in order to qualify for this premium rate. In addition, there are other benefits worth noting:
  • No annual fees
  • No balance transfer fees
  • 25 day grace period
  • A cash advance fee that is capped at $50.00
Late fees are also lower than most cards in the industry and their default payment policy includes a 15.25% default interest rate. In comparison, some major issuers have default rates as high as 32+%. This simply means that if Simmons First finds it necessary to raise your rate because of excessive non-payment and/or late payments, your interest rate will not jump to 32+%, but to only 15.25%.

Simmons also offers an attractive benefits package to its cardholders. In addition to the benefits listed above Simmons First also offers travel insurance, emergency cash and a host of other services.

Based on the FICO score recommendation, applicants should have a great credit record. A FICO score of at least 742 is recommended for a higher chance of approval for the Simmons First Visa Platinum®, but is not required. There are a number of other factors that this issuer may also consider when making decisions for approval.

Re: Simmons Bank Credit Card - Nice Card, But Tough To Get

Well, this ain't good.

I nosed around, and found a LOT of unflattering comments about Simmons from folks who tried to apply. Applications dragging on for months, customer service being very unhelpful, pulling 2 and 3 INQs on CRs over those months, and being more FR happy than AMEX.

Seems from some customers who've been with Simmons for a while, their service used to be quite good, but not anymore.

Interesting read.  Thanks NB.

Re: Simmons Bank Credit Card - Nice Card, But Tough To Get

I think that if you look hard enough you will find individuals who complain about every single CC and CCC out there!  It is one of the benefits and problems with the internet.  For example, I have been pretty happy with both Chase and Juniper because they suit my needs and have been usually useful on the phone (and Chase reps seem to be Americans in the US)

I know nothing about this particular card I might add.
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

I'm with you Midnight!  No ccc is perfect, but Barclays has been very nice to me when ever I call.

Re: Simmons Bank Credit Card - Nice Card, But Tough To Get

I got the card about 2 years ago.  I had to fax a copy of a W-2 (or W-4?  which one is the yearly income statement?).  The only problem I've ever had was when they billed me for the annual fee.  I made one phone call and they took it off.

Other issue (completely unimportant): they have a rewards program and send me quarterly statements of the points I've accrued, but nowhere on the website can you find any info about the rewards.  The CSR promised to fax me some info but never did.  I don't care about getting more junk, but it seems odd that their rewards program is inaccessible.
