will closed cc deletion affect credit history length

I have some chargeoffs and old cc cards with 90 day lates that I am disputing.  All of these items were closed back in jan. 2003.  Will having these items deleted affect my score and shorten my credit history length even though they are already closed? This history on all of these items were perfect from jan. 2003 and on.

Re: will closed cc deletion affect credit history length

In my experience if the accounts are closed and the times you were late are fairly recent to when and why they closed then deleteing them should help your score because no one will see that you have ever had a late, however; IE: if the accts were 5 yrs old and you paid on time for 2 yrs then had a 90 day late in the 3rd yr but got on track and pd on time the last 2 yrs before closing the accts then it will show that you had a problem but promply corrected it and continued to be a good paying client which is very common and easily forgiven. Then you should leave the accts alone if they have at least ayr prior of no lates and a $0 balance when closed.
Otherwise~DISPUTE and try to DELETE.

In my limited experience, some succesful disputes cause loss of the entire trade line from your record.

In my case this is (a) good because it reduces the number of accounts and (b) bad because it reduces the average age of accounts.

The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid
