Newbie Guide

I'm going to add this to my sig in an effort to perhaps be helpful.

First, welcome.

Second, here's a link to an incomplete list of abbreviations in use.
http://ficoforums.myfico.com/fico/board/message?board.id=generalcredit&message.id=3866

Third, since you're here, there's at least a change you want to know a little something about Credit Scoring.
http://ficoforums.myfico.com/fico/board/message?board.id=ficoscoring&thread.id=2654

Fourth, an unofficial guide to posting. It starts OK, but proceeds downhill later in the thread. As the thread drifts off, feel free to do the same.
http://ficoforums.myfico.com/fico/board/message?board.id=generalcredit&thread.id=13251

Finally, an incomplete list of Frequently Requested Threads
http://ficoforums.myfico.com/fico/board/message?board.id=generalcredit&thread.id=6834

Search feature here is pretty good, but don't feel bad if you can't find what you're looking for only to ask a question that has already been asked. You're unlikely to get mugged in an alley here. [Happened to me only once.]

WARNING! The Newbie Guide link in my sig at the bottom is a link to this thread. If you press it here, you could get stuck in an infinite loop or end up trapped inside the Bangalore Office of Experian. Use at your own risk! [Just kidding!]

P.S. If you haven't already obtained a copy of your CRs, might be a good time to start. They are available a number of different places. You can even get them FOC (Free Of Charge).

Decline, decline, Computer Fraud detection system on all MC/Visas

My 1st message on here, not sure how to start a new thread or where to put this. I've always had pretty decent credit for the last 30 years with scores ranging from 779-803. now I'm a 794, I think. I do have some very high credit lines on some of my cards. But in my whole life, I've managed my credit, not lost cards, ect, and have no reason for the banks not to trust me. Here is the issue. Lately in the last 6 months, all of Master Cards and Visas have been getting numerous declines at merchants. I do travel a whole lot, always have, but there seems to be a computer system that declines and turns off my CC's whole lot lately. Does this happen to anyone else? I'm thinking of dumping the MC's & Visas and just keeping my Amex's. It never, ever happens with any of the Amex products. After being embarrassed at a restaurant from a recent decline out on Cape Cod, I think I may have had enough. This has happened 6 other times when guests were present. Happening a dozen times in 6 months is way too much. They say they are protecting us. Yeah, right. For someone who is online all the darned time on the bank's credit card sites reveiwing every charge, you would think they could catagorize me a little differently. They say when in a foreign country, call before you go. Well, I do that. But guess what? They still decline charges and turn my card off. Emailing the CC company won't work. They won't listen to you even if you are signed on. So am I the only one getting all this BS? Bill

Can you please copy and paste this as a new thread? The only thing that I am thining is that you have some type of cons. fraud protection and that might be freezing it but the only way to know is just to call them directly and demand (polititely of course) to know.

Re: Decline, decline, Computer Fraud detection system on all MC/Visas

Hi, BillWillCharge--To start a new thread, look up at the top left for "new message" and click that. You'll have a box to put in your thread subject, etc.

Also, if you use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer, you have to scroll to the bottom left of the text box where you enter your post and find the button that says something about converting carriage returns to html line breaks, or something similar (I'm on IE at the moment). That's your keep-my-freaking-paragraphs-looking-like paragraphs button.

So you can just control-C your current post, click "new message", att a title, control-V it back on, re-insert your paragraphs, and you're good to go. I don't know if you want to be on the General Credit Issues board or Credit Cards board, though.

Re: Newbie Guide

I am so appreciative of the wonderful suggestions/posts online.  I am battling a sea of old collection accounts on my credit report would you suggest filing a bankruptcy in lieu of the long haul with waiting for the seven year reprieve?  I have seen some collection accounts resurface with AT&T, Austin Energy, & TX Gas.  The amount due on each of these is minimal , high(s) around $200, low(s) around $80
In two years I have 0 late pays on the following, please note some of these accounts are not two years old however the 0 late pays apply:  my citi auto loan $519, home depot $500, chevron $400, chase,$200, UFCU CC $1000, Shell gas $200, UFCU sig loan $1700, citifinacial sig loan $5500, Capital One CC$ 1250,  Capital One CC2 $1000 Chase Home Mortg$150K.  I am almost at the max on all credit lines and I recently (last week) received a credit card preapproval from Chase for $4k, they are my mortgage company on which,  have already charged $2500 I have 0% interest until August at which point I plan to pay the balance off in full.

I want to get my scores up so I can join the 700 club.  I have mastered the never late rule, where do I start, I can't seem to get rid of the ever reappearing collection accounts from my past as they continue to resale to other groups.  I just joined the SW group and posted my credit scores below...HELP not sure why my TU score went down significantly, my new credit card has not posted and it was offered to me when I made my mortgage payment so no hard hits are on my CBR yet

My credit scores as of 2/26/2008 are:
SW: EQ/513   EX/ 532    TU/618
3/10/2008:
True Credit: EQ/570   EX/512    TU/580

Starting Score: 530
Current Score: 549
Goal Score: 750

Re: Newbie Guide

Firefox is gaining popularity due to its multi platform use. Linux, Unix, Windows.

I am not sure what forum software you guys are running, but creating a Firefox plug0in to work with the forums should eb quite easy.

I also would suggest a RSS Feed as well.
