Insurance co. paid physician; CA acts as if they got paid! Now what???

Well, cool, I will jump right in on this new forum! Good timing for my new problem.

To summarize, DD#1 was at an out-of-state summer soccer camp when she had an asthma attack and had to go to the local ER. The facility (hospital) bill was paid by insurance, but the provider (physician) billing service screwed up their bill, and insurance wouldn't pay. The billers never resubmitted, and turned the account over to collections instead. Neither the billing service nor the CA ever, ever contacted us.

So nearly 6 years later, I find out about this (the collection is on DH's EQ and TU reports) and call the now former insurance company, and God bless them, they agreed to pay. They sent a check for the full amount to the physician's billing service, and I disputed the collection with EQ and TU as "paid by insurance."

EQ sent the notice of the dispute being resolved yesterday, but the CA makes it look like we paid THEM, plus they updated the account with two different dates, one from February and one from April.

I did confirm today that it was the OC that was paid, not the CA. So what is the next step at getting this bogus collection off of DH's reports?

Here's what I posted yesterday when I was still completely freaked. It shows how the account looks on the EQ full report and on the myFICO report:

My turn! Starting on DH's medical collection

You asked on the other posting, if they re-aged it. No, it still shows DOFD as 2002.(unless that isnt' the DOFD)

Have you asked the OC about them instructing the CA to remove due to THEIR mistake.

In all honesty I would do a 1-2 punch. I would DV the CA via CMRRR (the jab). This is NOT a
bona fide collection and it can't hurt to do so, though I don't think this collection is doing much damage to scores. Once the DV is received by the CA, dispute with the CRAs (the knockout; false crack medivac) as not yours. IMHO, snafus by OCs never make any collection legit, period!

OK, she said cautiously, so the timing is to DV the CA with a CMRRR, and once I get the green card/ receipt back, then dispute with the CRA's again as "not mine." Yes?

BTW, in terms of the non-damage, DH has an 800 on EX (no collection), 714 on EQ, and 724 on TU. So I'm thinking it does have an impact! Smiley Wink

Thanks, sidewinder! I keep telling people that I'm a complete newbie on collections. I saw the Feb 08 and Apr 08 entries and nearly stroked out. Glad you were able to read it clearly. So I guess that's why his EQ score didn't change one way or another.

edit to add: When I first started calling around about this junk, I asked the OC about pulling back the collection. They acted as if they had never heard of such a thing, and that they were clueless how to do this. This was before the insurance company confirmed that the OC screwed up in the first place.

So this is definitely a fall-back option! thanks
