HSBC to Capital One

I was told 02 Apr 2012, but that is always changeing. At first it said 24 Jan 2012 then Feb 2012. Does any one know when?

Its probably best to wait for something in writing if you have cards from them.

This is more than likely true, and in the process of informing their cardholders.

The sale of the USA HSBC credit card operation to Capital One was granted approval today. Changes should start to be seen fairly quick, similar to the ING transfer of ownership a couple of weeks ago. A quick check of the HSBC web site shows that none of the "apply for credit card" options are working as of this afternoon.

The approval of the acquistion of my employer just got approved a week ago (It took a year), As of yesterday, I am working for the new company.

Based on the Kohls Card going from Chase to Capital One as of last August 11, 2011, I would say the transition will be seamless. DW has a Kohls card and she was not aware that there had been any change in ownership-management of her account until I told her in January of this year. I suspect that private label co-branded cards won't see any obvious change although I also suspect co-branded MC/V accounts will be reissued as Capital One accounts as will HSBC accounts. Of course the MC/V assumptions are just a guess whereas the Kohls card experience is not.

I'm getting "server error" pages trying to log in to both my HSBC and Orchard cards --- uggggg I did get through after a few tries to my HSBC plat - but the site was pretty messed up. Never happened before, I'm assuming this is because of the "official" status of the sale now.

Good thing I paid them both off early!

I have a feeling that my Orchard Bank card with a $320 limit and i believe a $59 annual fee will be exactly the same with the exception of being Capital One. This is just a guess, but I think the accounts wont actually change at all as far as limits, annual fees, interest rates, etc. I think the only thing that will change is the branding.

You have a shot at getting the card converted to another product, people have posted success getting those $59 AF $100 limit cards into better products. That can't be said about HSBC ;)

As an hsbc employee I can tell you it is tentatively set for the transition to take place April 2nd but with all the reg's in place it could possibly change. As consumers it should be pretty seamless they aren't making a bunch of changes. Supposed to be business as usual.
