Question about amex purchase protection

I bought a 60 plasma on my amex about a month ago. Long story short I came home today and the TV is no longer working, pretty sure someone knocked it off the stand. With the coverage I am going to get a estimate to fix it, do they require you to return the product to them? Or do they just allow you to dispose of the product. Because I dont have the orginal box and i had to rent a truck to get it home in the first place? Any help from people who used this service please advise..

Hmm... Just call purchase protection and file a claim. They should take it because it was accidental damage. After you explain the transporting situation they should work with you.

Please let us know how it works out.

Since you only purchased it a month ago wouldn't they tell you to work through the manufacturer's warranty first ?

If it's expensive and easily reparable, they'll probably just have it fixed. If they choose to issue a full refund in lieu of repair, they may or may not require that the product be returned, but with a 60" TV, chances are they'll be repairing it...

Of course, it's hard to be "pretty sure" a 60" TV hit the floor. Is there any evidence of physical damage? If not, just have the manufacturer take care of it. Anything bigger than 32" is almost guaranteed to be in-home service when it comes to warranty repairs...

More like my friend who I am letting stay with me accidently hit the tv bringing his Golf bag in the house. Im trying to figure out if amex is gonna want me to send it back its pretty toast screen cracked. Had a local guy say there is no fixing it would cost more then I paid.

Does anyone know if they will require it back???? I dont feel like moving it anywhere besides to the trash.

Just call and ask.

My guess is that purchase protection applies to your finding a better price within 30 days but Amex automatically extends the manufacturer's warranty. You'll probably have to deal with your clumsy roommate going through the hassle sending it back under warranty.

Why don't you call? They are pretty helpful in figuring out what you need to do.

It covers breaks and stolen within the first 90 days of purchase. I called and some lady who sounded like she was from some other country was not answering my questions at all so I got frustrated and hung up.

+1. AMEX is pretty good about responding to messages. And I doubt they'd want you to ship it back, it would prob cost quite a bit to do that. So have you had a chance to confront your roomie yet ? Did he admit to anything ?

Yes he admitted to it. Im not that concerned about amex handling the situation I know they will, I already have a quote from a local tv guy who says its unrepairable the gas in the plasma is messed up and front screen cracked. So I am going to call them and send the quote as well as asking about sending it back. I will let them know it is going to be a hassle to send it back
