I got my first card through US Bank when I was 18, it was some sort of a student card I think (it has been changed multiple times as they discontinued cards). I don't remember the credit limit, but I'm sure that it was somewhere between $1000 and $2000. I used to receive regular CLI's and got up to $7800 at some point. I haven't gotten one of those in a while. Now I have a Cash+ Signature Visa that I am loving for the bill pay. It has been the same TL the entire time and is my longest one.

Hey just curious to know. What was your very first credit card, what year was it opened , what was your CL then and what is It to date?

Mine was a Bank Of America student card in 2000 when i turned 18. They gave me $1500, I had no clue about credit and did horrible things with it so I decided to close it. :smileysad: Im much wiser now! :smileyvery-happy:

My 1st credit card was US Bank starting CL was $500, I was 18 at the time. After like 4 months they gave me a CL of $1000; once I noticed that I figured that was a horrible thing for me to relize when I was looking at my bill. Sadly I made a huge mistake with the acconut it went in to collections, which I have recently paid off.

Gotta live and learn I guess...sadly I wish I didn't learn that way.

Mine was a Cap One card with a limit of $200 IIRC, this was in 2000. It was a mainly black card with lightning strikes in the background. I remembered getting a letter in the mail from them, a pre-approval I guess I should say and you mailed it back with the lil sticker placed in lil box on the card design you wanted.

That was my very first card, didnt have much income working part time at the local grocery store and just out of high school. I wish I can go back in time with what I know now about credit.

If you want to get technical about it, a bank account I opened my freshman year of college automatically came with a credit card for overdraft protection. I never used it to buy anything, but I wound up unemployed and used it for cash advances to pay my rent. That sucker's been paid off and closed since 2004, I think.

As far as credit cards that I've actually applied to get, the first one would be my Capital One Platinum Mastercard, opened this past February with a $500 CL, now a $750 CL (yay, Credit Steps!)

Citibank Visa $720 CL in 1989 when I was in college! By the time I was 25, it had a $6500 CL - I knew nothing about credit, and went on to ruin mine. VERY surprisingly, I was approved for a Discover card last week; I am still tripping on this. And I have always said, of all the cards that lost in bankruptcy, there r on two that I want to get back: Discover and Citibank - I feel I will be ready to app for a Citibank card next summer.

My first was a Target store card in 1998 with a low limit ($200 I think). I was working for Target at the time and had no credit history. They didn't have the Target VISA yet. I kept that card and credit limit until they came out with the VISA later (a couple of years maybe?). They automatically upgraded me to the VISA when they started offering it and gave me a CL of $5900. I was SHOCKED considering I very rarely used the card. I didn't use it wisely, slowly adding to the balance for frivolous stuff until it was maxed. Then I stopped using it and started paying it down. I payed minimums or very slightly more for a while (perfect payment history on everything). When the laws came out where they showed how long it would take to pay at minimums and how much interest I would pay I decided it was time to do something about it. I already knew it would take forever to pay off and I would pay ridiculous amounts in interest if I paid just the minimums, but seeing it on paper pushed me to finally do something about it. I took out a personal loan to pay it off and I'm still paying it down. I will pay much less in interest this way and my monthly payment is fixed and slightly less than my monthly payment was before I took out the loan. I've been using the card responsibly since then and recently added an AMEX BCP to my garden. I'm also using it responsibly.
