I have had severa differentl Amex Charge cards since 1998, 3 months ago I applied and was approved for the BCE . The date on the card says member since 1998. But today i was checking my fico reports , and its states account open 2012. I called and spoke to a supervisor and they told me they could not backdate this account since it was a revolver and not a charge account. Is that the correct answer to my question or not.

No, backdating has nothing to do with charge or credit.

PS - They've definitely become much more strict on backdating. I've seen recently many who were refused backdating, especially on AU cards.

I don't understand why your fico would report 2012 when your card reads 1998. Amex usually reports the TL with the member since date automatically.

Thats the reason I called Csr, spoke with two csr and finally a supervisor. He stated the reason the card showed member since 1998, is because thats when I became a member . My charge card is reporting correct , just not this new account.

Just got off the Phone , spoke to a very nice Csr Supervisor. She informed me that it should have been backdated to 1998, and they would contract the credit bureas. Told me it could take up to 60 days to reflect the correct date. And an FYI since Nov 21st of last year Amex will no longer backdate any AU accounts. Because I asked her about adding my GF to this account. I want to thank everyone for their imput, great group of people on this forum.

The direct number for Amex Credit Reporting Issues 1-800-874-2717 M-F 8am-5pm

Looks right.

After 2 statements, Equifax reports a clean 81 month history for backdated Amex. A manual reviewer cannot say when the account was really opened. TU and EX show the actual history and manual reviewers can spot the difference. Still great for overall Credit/AAoA and scores etc for auto approvals :)

Transunion always reports the exact month and day the account was "opened" in the Amex systems. This is also a handy way to know when you are eligible for the first CLI. If Account opened shows as XX/YY/ZZZZ in TU, 61day CLI date is XX+2/YY+1. Example your account opened date in TU says 6/15/1998, first CLI eligible date is 08/16/2012. Another reason why opening Amex in January rocks.
