Creditors being hospitals have gotten stricter and wiser on the hippa process and do follow the Hippa laws that are in place. It will not work on paid medical bills.

Actually, that's not true. It partially worked for me. It's off of TU so far...still not done with the process. I've seen quite a few other people recently that it's worked for as well.

What is Hipaa? Is it a process that is unethical and that's why it can't be discussed? I'm just curious is all, I keep seeing this word that can't be discussed. I'm done with my baddies, waiting for deletions and am bored out of my skull. ;)

No, really nothing unethical about the process. It was used in a time when HIPAA wasn't a household word and it worked for a short while because creditors probably thought they were in violation of the law. Since then they are more aware that reporting a collections to your credit report is not a violation at all. There are specific rules for this to be done and if they are followed correctly, and reported correctly, no violations have occured.

We can discuss the process we just cannot post links or letters or anything like that.

When a hospital gives a CA collection authority to collect on unpaid medical debt, the CA is only receives the date of service and amount owed. The hospital knows better not to release medical information to a CA cause of the HIPPA law that is in place. The HIPPA law is in place in almost every part of the hospital.

No a hospital can release anything to the CA for collection of the debt. The CA can release it to the consumer but no one else. Straight out of HIPAA rules.

Actually if you read the fine print of the HIPPA agreement you sign it expressly permist release of information to a third party for collection reasons.
