Midland is hard to work with, so should be dealt with hard, IMO.

You say this is for a Citi account....did you have a Citi account? Have you contacted Citi? Is Citi reporting?

i have been in TX for over 6 years......do not plan of moving back to Cal.....so they can't sue me here in TX, but if i were to move back to Cal, there is a chance that i could still be within SOL.....i did not know this...thanks for the info!! Either way.....the account would still come off of my reports right?

Yes, the account will be removed once past CRTP, whether it is beyond SOL or not. As for suing, when you are dealing with 2 seperate states, it gets tricky as to when they can/can't sue and where they can/can't sue. Midland has been suing a lot lately it seems, so I would think if it was or they believed it was within SOL they would sued already, but no promises there.

Capital 1 is another account that would have been paid off (problem is that this happened in 2002, someone else paid it off for me...so i have no records, but in 2002 i had all my CC taken care of so it would not make sense to not pay this one off too)

Cap One is still reporting a balance? Someone reported the other day that they had luck with a PFD, but I think it was a fluke. The person reading their offer was dizzy that day or something. They are about as bad as Midland. File a dispute under FCRA 623 with Cap One disputing the balance and requesting that they conduct an investigation under FCRA 623 and report the results back to you. Because you may or may not be beyond SOL, make sure you can PIF if they were to sue and you were to be within SOL.

thanks so much for the help!!

these last 2 accounts seem to really be holding me back from getting credit and i really want to start building it back up and get some cards with some good lines!

i have a midland account that should be falling off in a couple of years.....it's past SOL & the only thing I hear from Midland is that they will accept a smaller amount than what they say i owe.

i have been disputing this account & don't think it's mine.....and even though the account has a DOLA from either 03 or 04......it's really hurting my chances of getting any new credit.

has anyone heard of midland accepting a PFD? i would pay them for half of what they are asking for just to get this off of my credit. i would think they would take it, otherwise they would not get paid at all since it's beyond SOL..

since the account is so old i don't think it would help my score that much, but i think CC would like to not see it on there....any thoughts?

thanks!

From my experiences with them, Midland will not do a PFD. However, if you setle the account, and then dispute it as "incomplete or inaccurate information", they will delete. My sister had this happen twiice with Midland. One debt was in the neighborhood of $500 and the other about $250.

Good luck.

Just make sure you get it in writing from Midland. I have found them to be pretty scummy. I was attempting to negotiate a settlement with them a couple years ago, before I was educated about such things, and they just lied, and lied.

Hm, I just asked if I should PFD in another thread. Now I'm unsure because it's Midland. I have DV'd with no response and I sent a copy of my DV letter etc to the credit bureaus that are reporting. Equifax "verified" it was mine. I don't know how because they sent no proof, just a letter stating it was found to be mine. Anyhow, the amount owed is minimal and could be paid in full but if they won't delete will my score change if it is paid? I'm scared to PFD now that I see what's been written about them.

Collections seem to hurt your score whether they are paid or unpaid. I would keep trying for the PFD. However if that does not work, I would suggest paying it if it is a small amount. At least in a manual review it would look better, and well you did incur the debt, so always best to pay it off anyways.

Also if it is already paid....you could always try to GW or DV them later. Sometimes if you DV something that is already paid, the company will not want to bother with the work of verifying it since they have no incentive anymore, and will drop it from your reports.

But keep trying the PFD first. If that fails for a long time..then pay, wait, GW and DV.

Nope not yet. I didn't know that I could since they (equifax) "verified" it. Experian sent a letter stating that I didn't give them sufficient identification info to verify my identity. Bunch of bullcrap if you ask me. So it was enough for Exquifax but not Experian?! Obviously these credit bureaus do not have the same criteria for reporting nor verifying. It's maddening! Anywho, sidewinder, I don't know what to do next. Because not only are these two bureaus treating this differently but now the third, which this account was not on, is now reporting it! So wth?! Mind you I haven't gotten ANYTHING from Midland themselves but they've obviously decided to make sure that all three of my scores are being dinged by them! Grrrrrrrrr

Unfortunately, no, I didn't DV when I received the letter from them. I started getting letters from them a couple of years ago. Not knowing who or what it was, I never paid the letters any mind. So I have no idea what this is. i don't recall owing anyone the amount that they are saying is owed. I only DV'd them recently because I became serious about cleaning up my credit. But at this point I could care less if it's mine, I just want it gone!! It's $286 so I'll take my lick and pay it if it will help my score. It's just a bit frustrating because I feel I'm getting the run around and nobody is sending proof that it is mine. Only a letter stating it is.

the CRAs all have different info.

Capital 1 - EX says Date of last payment Aug, 2004......DOLA is April 2004

Midland - EX says DOLA is 2003, can't find a DOFD on any of my reports

these accounts were while i was in CA, but i have been in TX since late 2003.....so they should be beyond SOL for both states

thanks again for all the help!!

Just got off the phone with Citibank account services. I gave them my name and account number that is shown on my credit report and she said that none of their accounts start with those numbers. She then tells me to to write their credit bureau dispute center. Ugh I feel like pulling my hair out!!!!

The account number you have on your report is the number of the account you have with the CA, not the OC.

Call back, explain that a CA is trying to collect on a debt where they claim CitiBank is the OC. However, you do not recall having a debt with CitiBank and ask them to search by your name/SS#/whatever else they can.

CeRTifiEDNuT wrote:
Just got off the phone with Citibank account services.
