Taboo responses?

Ever read a thread and have to back slowly away because your response would be inconsistent with forum norms?

It happened to me a few years ago. Was reading a thread where someone complaining about an old medical bill posted the doctor didn't need the money and would only use it for a Benz payment. I started typing something along the lines of "Keep that in mind next time you get sick", actually it may have been a little worse and then quickly deleted, LOL!

What are the responses you couldn't type?

I can't remember, but I back away from posting a thing or two on a daily basis. I forget my humor doesn't always translate too well on the forums and sometimes lingers into off-topic land.

I couldn't type them in the past without getting in trouble and I still can't. :smileyhappy:

But I will say I have done much editing many times before the final version was posted.

LOL, Guys!

I'm not talking about mean-spirited comments. I'm talking about honest responses that wouldn't necessarily work, within the context of a forum's group mentality.

It might not have been a bad thing to make that one comment..... considering they banned me from the site for calling BS BS on all the derrogatory comments moderators allowed to be posted about men, LOL!

No I wasn't talking about mean spirited either. Nor personal attacks or flaming.

But the Marine Corps taught me how to get right to the point and my "honesty" would not play well even if offered with many :smileyhappy: along the way.

So in my capacity as a mod I have to be strong and temper my need to say what I really think on various occasions.

I wasn't talking mean spirited either... but sometimes my comments tend to ramble onto Off-Topic land and can derail a thread from its original intent.

I still manage to do that somehow, so maybe I need to gauge it even further.

I do remember reading a story of how someone got locked out and had to call someone to unlock their door and they used a credit card to open it along with something else. My obvious question was going to be what card did the person use and if the APR was really low... but I left it alone.

Sometimes I have to refrain from telling people that they are stupid to consider going into debt for 6 yrs on a 50k vehicle when they make only 60k per year.

I try to quickly exit the auto threads and run! My views are very bad on auto loans due to my stupid ex husband, so I get tempted to say things based on my experiences rather than the avg persons.

I feel the same about mortgage threads on occasion. I'm not great at math, though. It's 100% possible I'm wrong those times things don't seem to add up. :)

I really don't get the car thing, either. In my eyes; it's just sits outside while you work inside to pay for it.

You all are making this too hard.

Once I retire from government service, I will get a job as a MyFICO web developer and then modify the forum code to change the response that the mods see. For example if someone says that "Marty don;t know anything about anything", then the mod would see "Marty, let me teach you".

Problem solved.

I got my first "mod cut" this week. I guess some of us actually have "used" some of those taboo responses. :smileyembarrassed:

But it wasn't mean spirited, just a double entendre about liking large CL's. And I do admire the good credit management it takes to get those lines up at the $25K+ range. I hope mine keep increasing. I really didn't think it was that out of line at the time, and never would have posted something I thought would offend. (I actually thought it was funny- shows what I know...)

I am relatively new out here, but there have been times that I have wanted to say "Really?? You thought making a 25th app after 22 rejections this month was a good idea?" or the people who have brand new credit profiles, low incomes, and collections yet can't understand why they did not get a CLI from $500 to $10000 on their recon, and then ask "Do you think I should try and recon again?"

In those cases, I really feel people want to hear "Keep at it until someone says yes because all the inquiries will fall off at the same time". It's a plea for attention and reassurance, not reasonable advice. People already know a ton of inquiries is bad, I really don't understand asking forgiveness, permission, or understanding when already knowing the implications of an action in advance.

Yes it is hard sometimes when you want to tell someone not to apply for this or that when you know they will get rejected. I don't feel bad when the complain about it though.

I have noticed lately I can ramble off topic if given a chance. Probably comes with the territory of being at this forum for awhile and starting to get comfortable with the regulars, and being in the garden for the rest of the year so apping and credit isn't the main thing on my mind right now. Basically starting to see some threads as a chance to chew the fat.

Webhopper my views on auto loans is don't take them out. I have had two cars, both hand me downs from my parents, and I can see the current one lasting a decade or even longer. Just took it pretty hard though. Got new brakes and tires, which I planned on, then a week after that it was leaking oil and had to get the pump replaced and 900 bucks just blindsided me, on top of what I already paid for tires and brakes. I am glad I am able to take advantage of the 0% APR on my discover card to ease the pain for a few months. Still better than paying a car payment for several years.

When I do decide to buy a car I will start putting away some money each month, then when I get to about 15k put away I will start browsing the used car lot, and if I see something that has great gas mileage and the cost is within the money I have saved, then I will buy it. Spending 50k on a car to me is completely out of the question. A car is just a piece of metal to get you around town, so the less I spend on a car, and the better fuel efficiency, the more money for my travel budget. :smileyhappy:

I tend to get perturbed (type response, walk away, come back, delete response... Post something nicer, but not quite what I *really* wanted to say, LOL!) when the "Three Post Wonders" storm in to 1) Scream about (usually in all caps) their impossible credit problems, and how the entire world should crash and burn because they can't get whatever they want *yesterday*, 2) Angrily retort that yes they are hopeless, helpless, and being kept down by "The Man", so stop trying to convince them otherwise when several somebodies offer information that would allow them to start helping themselves dig out, and finally, post 3) The final angry outburst accusing us all of being shills for FICO, before they flounce away in a huff...

Sometimes, seeing the first post, and *knowing* where it's going, I just want to say, "Yep. You're doomed. Want a cookie?" :smileytongue:

You need to understand one thing: they're the only person in the world to ever have a problem or setback. :)

I do occasionally wonder how someone who has been struggling financially for years is gonna swing doubling or tripling monthly expenses with a new house. I don't wonder enough to ask directly, though. Morbid curiosity would be perceived as rude.

I have a horrible tendency to speak brutal, honest truth...no matter how blunt or hurtful, and I frequently do it in person :(

It's not that I think I'm better than people....it's that I'm amazed at some people's stupidity. I'm not the smartest BUT if our country required a certain IQ level to have babies, I would pass ;)

Tough love ain't easy, especially on an Internet message board.

I've typed a lot out, and I've erased a lot before posting, generally along the lines of, "You freakin' idiot, you've been here for four months! Don't you read ANYTHING? Do you even THINK???" And then I take it out.

In my experience, maybe two-thirds? --more likely one-half --respond to tough-love messages. The others just aren't rational, at least not in this area of their lives, and all they'll do is get huffy and act hurt.

I also keep in mind that lots of people, especially newbies, are going to read the posts. To me, it's important that others be able to learn something from our posts here, and also pick up on how we roll around here, and more importantly, how we don't. ;)

edited because I forgot about iPads and paragraphs on the forums, and the lack thereof. :P
