Yes, I would almost always hold a door for someone I was with.

My father was a gentleman. I've opened doors even for people who probably didn't deserve it.

Almost always, yes. I had an ex girlfriend that would get mad at me for doing it, claiming I was flirting with them. And that's part of the reason why she's my ex.

Absolutely! It's just common courtesy. I always open and close the car door for a lady and hold the door open for the person behind me when going in or out of a building.

I am female, but I always hold the door open for people coming behind me or for elderly people. I will go out of my way to help someone who is in some way challenged (visually impaired, wheelchair or walker user, carrying an armful of things, stroller, etc...)

As a female, I apppreciate the gesture whenever it is offered, and I will say thank you.

I too find myself always holding the door open for anyone who is around it's just common curdousy if you ask me. Then again I ususally still say Yes Sir No Sir or ma'am everywhere I go too. Just the way I was raised I guess. I also find that people for the most part not always tend to treat you a little better also when you do that!

When traveling in the car, sometimes I open the passenger door for my wife, sometimes not. If I am entering a building, I open the door for her to walk inside and then enter behind. I don't usually hold the door for people walking behind me, unless they are immediately behind me and we are both at the door anyway.

Personally, I don't like it when someone who is more than a few paces in front of me pauses at the door and holds it open waiting for me to get there. I am a soldier in the United States Army. I can open the door myself, thank you.

Yeah and they usually say it oh so rudely.... after they have walked through the open door :P

I generally hold the door open for anyone closely behind me or reaching a door in front of me. It is simple respect... Now while driving... no comment :smileymad:

Wish I could say I join in this train of thought, but my father always taught me to open doors to the "non-hot" ones as well, because you never knew if they had hot friends they could introduce you to.

The reply in that situation is:

"Well, I am sure you can. But when someone holds the door open for ME, I usually just say thank you".

That has the double effect of taking the man/woman aspect out of the equation and reducing it to common courtesy as well as reminding them that they were being rude. :smileyhappy:

No one's ever pulled the "I can open my own door!" line, LOL! If faced with the situation, I'd politely explain that being treated like a lady is a good thing and that femininity shouldn't be sacrificed to advance feminism. :)
