You probably will be approved. FYI, the credit score on Experian is what is commonly known as a Fako (not a real Fico score). I think it is a Vantage Score (their own proprietary score, not used by most lenders). You may want to check your score on Credit Sesame or Credit.com (it is free), they may be better estimators of an Experian score, as it is based on info from your EX report.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do! Let us know the results.

Neither Chase nor AMEX seem to like short histories too much. You are aware that most likely both (AMEX definitely) will pull EX? As of late Chase has been doing double pulls (EX and TU). So if your EX is approx the same as EQ and TU, you should be good to go.

Most places send checks that can be written to yourself (then depoitied and used to pay the CC you choose), or directly to the credit card you are paying off. I don't think the banks care as long as they get their money.

To the OP, I think that the damage to your score will be relatively small since you are going from 17-18% overall util (4k bal of 24k avail) to approx 23% overall Util (5575 bal on 24k avail), but 40% on that one card. It is difficult to predict Fico scores, but you will likely take a small ding for having another card with a balance, as well as the increase util on that one card. You could try to get a CLI on one of your cards before you do the BT - thus eliminating/reducing the ding to your utilization.

Walmart cards usually start with lower limits, but you can slowly and steadily get CLI's to get limit increased, or get a quxker increase by callinf credit solutions. Mine started at 600 and is now up to 7.5k. I never requested a increase for this card through credit solutions, just took the increases as they gave them to me on the website.

Is this becoming common practice for all apps or are there specifics involving applicants?

I was thinking of applying for two chase cards and am not keen on a double pull.

Usually any CCC wil pull twice if you are "borderline".. If they pull one report and think you barely qualify they may pull a second just to ensure there are no derogs and such.. If you think you are a borderline applicant, then wait until you think you're a lock for the card... You still may risk a double pull but at least you minimize your risk of a double pull by givign yourself the best possible chances..

I was double pulled (EX and TU) by Chase this week for a Marriott Visa. I don't think my scores are borderline, I just think this seems to be the new trend. I was instantly approved for 15.1k. I got my CSP and Freedom in June, 2012 about a week apart, and they only did one pull then (TU).

Kinda bummed....

Just continue to use the card, and the will probably give you a auto-cli. In my experience, the auto-cli's were not 'exactly' on the 6th month, sometimes more like 10-12 mos. You have a limited credit history with CC's, so they may not give the auto-CLI right away. Gotta be patient....Definitely do not request one online if you don't want any INQ's - because it will be a HP.

When reading the forums, it sounds like EVERYBODY is getting these awesome auti-CLI's except you. I think it causes you to expect it because it has been posted alot. In reality YMMV, and the banks will do as the please, when they please. No auto-CLI is written in stone.

I think inquiries/AAoA hits would be better spent on more lucrative sign-up bonuses, so would lean toward option #2.

Thanks for the inputs! appreciate it.

Is consolidating CL warranties a HP? I'm leaning towards combining the 5k to my freedom but a bit concerned about switching it to a siggy (from the regular/platinum visa now). Do they always upgrade to Visa siggy if your limit is over 5k? or is it a YMMV kind of thing?

*PS: I think I messed up trying to quote the previous reply. Still learning :)

No, they do not always upgrade to a Visa Siggy. My Freedom started at 8k, and I rec'd a CLI to make the limit 10.2k. It has been a regular Visa from the start, even with a 8k starting limit. I haven't had it a year yet (will be a year in a couple weeks) and I was told when I called in that I had to have the card a year before they would convert it to a Siggy.

You may want to check back via their automated phone system first (1-800-436-7927). Sometimes you get the 7-10 day response, and 10-15 mins later, it will show as approved.
