Depending on the state you live in, you may be able to get all 3 credit reports (for free) here:

AnnualCreditReport.com is a centralized service for consumers to request free annual credit reports. It was created by the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies - Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.

AnnualCreditReport.com provides consumers with the secure means to request and obtain a free credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies in accordance with the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act).

AnnualCreditReport.com offers consumers a fast and convenient way to request, view and print their credit reports in a secure Internet environment. We also provide options to request reports by telephone and by mail.

AnnualCreditReport.com is the only service authorized by Equifax, Experian and TransUnion for this purpose. The three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies have always encouraged consumers to regularly review their credit reports.

Please note that, as a security precaution,

Consumers should never provide their personal information to any other company or person for requesting free annual credit reports under the FACT Act.

AnnualCreditReport.com will not approach consumers via email, telemarketing or direct mail solicitations.

All of my student loans were funded through my credit union. Once I was finished with school, I consolidated all of my loans with the government (22k). I had no issues and everything went smoothly. My credit score was not super high at the time, but I had a good relationship with my CU.

I have 6 or so credit cards and honestly, the only card I can rely on to give me BT offers is Discover. They consistently have offers available. Occasionally I'll receive a BT offer on my chase amazon, which is all I use that card for due to it having a higher int. rate than my other cards. I recently moved a chase no name card over to the chase freedom, so I'm not sure if they'll send any offers through there. My Chase ink never gets bt offers and I opened a cap one cash rewards account expecting a bt offer, but not on there either. I did app for the slate because of the no fee bt, so that seems like a good option as well, however there aren't many other useful perks to that card. Good luck!

I would suggest going through a credit union for a personal loan. The fees are lower and the customer service is better.

They will look at your income, and credit worthiness. The interest rate (with a credit union) should be somewhere around 10%.

You can work with the rep to decide how quickly you want to pay back. The longer you choose, the more interest you will pay, but the lower your payments will be.

A lot of the CU websites have handy payment calculators.

good luck!

I don't see the harm in it. She is paying aggressively into a 401k and the 403b is a pretty small amount. The only downside I see is that she will probably only get back about 2/3 of it after calculating in the tax hit.

Having that cc debt hanging over your head is daunting. I can see where this would be an ideal situation to just be done with it. However, sometimes paying off debt is an easy way to charge up new debt. The old reminder is no longer there and it's easy to get carried away. I know I've done it.

If it were me, I would pay off the 10k and move the remaining amount owed to a no interest rate cc and pay as aggressively towards that as I could - save the cash out for when there are no other options.

I apped for the capital one cash rewards card today and was approved for a 5k limit. I was a little disappointed, since I was hoping to fall in the 5k+ category. Not sure if that puts me there or not. Have to wait until I get the card to see. Also the interest rate after the 0% 1st year is up at almost 22%, which is double the interest rate on any of my other credit lines. Not sure I'll keep them after the first year if they don't lower the rate for me.

I believe the standard is 2 yrs of employment history. You would need to prove that your income is stable enough to afford the cost of the mortgage. Having the same employer may help the cause if you can get them to verify in writing that your hours would be steady once they are at full time again. Others may be able to provide their own experiences, but that is my take on it.
