They are monstrous. They are reporting a 2007 T Mobile debt for me as 2011, and they are reporting it as two debts instead of one, same amount, different dates. Saying the account was opened in 2012 and the most recent activity was 2010. Ridiculous. I've gotten it removed multiple times only to have it show up again.

Ask for debt verification, and in the meantime dispute it.

Has anyone ever successfully had a late payment removed with a goodwill letter?

In the 8 years I've had students loans, I have one 60-day late and the rest of the payments have been on time. That was 13 months ago but it is really dragging my credit down. I'm not disputing the fact that they were late...I had deferred the payments during a period of unemployment and had no knowledge that the deferrment had passed. I want to send a letter asking them to delete it based on the fact that it was obviously an anomaly, but I don't know if it will work. I wrote one letter before to a creditor, and they informed me that it was against the Fair Credit and Reporting Act because they have to report everything accurately. How do you respond to that? I know they can legally and ethically remove the late payment if they want to.

I just logged in and saw that my FICO went from 683 to 615 overnight for no reason. I got no alerts...the only thing it said was, "Recently missed payment or date of last payment unknown" as a reason it MAY have dropped. I have no collections, no late payments on anything in over 12 months. What has caused such a significant drop in scoring? I recently applied for a refinance, but would two hard inquiries drop my score like that?

I attempted to refinance my home only to be told my credit was too low. My FICO is 683, but my other two scores are 598 and 594. I was shocked! I looked at the reports and the only difference is two of the reports shows a paid collection on the account. It was for an old $180 cell phone bill. Would that account for a differnece of over 90 points?

In October I purchased a new car and, like most people, shopped aorund for the best rate. It ended up putting 8 inquiries on my report in a period of a couple weeks. Last week, I applied for a streamline FHA refinance and was told I need to "Stop applying for new credit" because it looks bad, even though the inquiries were obviously from car dealerships and right around the same time. I was also denied an FHA streamline refinance with a FICO of 690.

Everything I've read says multiple inquiries count as just one when looking for a car or home loan. So why are they not showing up like that in my credit reports? It's very frustrating...I've gone from a 490 FICO to a 690 in less than a year and while it's not a great score, it's still being considered "bad."

My FICO is currently 651...is it possible to get traditional financing with a low score like that through a bank or CU? I don't want to apply and take a ding to my credit if the answer is no. I will have a down payment of about $5,000 and I have a good employment history and salary.

I have an old debt from a cell phone provider that I am fairly certain I don't owe. It was from 3 or 4 years ago. It showed up on my credit awhile ago; I disputed it and it was removed. The other day, I got a letter from a collection agency trying to collect the same debt. They are promising to report the debt as paid in full if I pay a settled amount of $100. I have not responded to them yet (letter dated September 3)

The thing is, it's not on my credit right now. I have worked so hard to repair my credit and am about to refinance my house, I'm willing to pay the $100 to keep it from showing up. The problem is, will paying it put it on my credit, even as "paid in full", if it's not on there to begin with? I'm very confused about this and am not sure what to do. Should I dispute it, or just pay it to keep them from reporting it?

I ran my credit report and saw a collections account from T-Mobile that i know I didn't owe. I disputed with the CA; they never responded, so I disputed with the three agencies. They all removed the account from my reports. Today, I got a letter from a new collection agency that had purchased the account from the previous CA that had never validated the debt. They are proposing a settlement and promising they will report it to the CAs as "paid."

If this collection account has already been removed from my credit because it was never validated, why is there another agency trying to collect on it? Should I respond? Can it go on my credit again?

Thanks.

Well, I actually did it before I paid it off. I emailed her (to get a paper trail) asking if I could get a set aside judgment once it was paid, and she said absoltuely no problem, they'd file it the day it was paid in full. So I would recommend emailing first; if you don't get a response in a couple days, give them a call and explain the situation.

Contact the attorney and ask for a motion to set aside judgment for an old account. It has to come from an attorney. They may charge you for it (I had to pay a $100 "Filing fee" but it was well worth it), but there really is no reason for them not to do it. It takes a couple weeks for the judge to sign, and then you just mail it in to the CRAs.

Good luck!

So I recently got a set aside judgment order to get a judgment deleted from my credit report (about 2 years old). I mailed it to the CRAs in July and just got the FICO alert today...score went up 53 points!!!! I'm not sure if everyone can expect the same kind of results, but it should be encouraging! Took about a month and a half from the time I mailed the form in to see a change in my score.

I know there were a few other people on the boards doing the same thing...hopefully you'll at least see this kind of result!

I guess it depends on how eager you are to get into a house. What is your creidt score now? Look into an FHA loan...they are a little more lenient. (I got one with a 650 credit score and $0 down in 2008). When your collections fall off, then you can refinance at a lower rate through an FHA streamline, if they're lower at that point. Based on my own experience, I'd recommend that.

Good luck.
