Good thing the word "prime" is subjective and capital one extends credit vicariously post-2008.

Just because capital one does not succumb to your standards does not mean that your definition should trump that of others. They've always been great with me and have yet to have a complaint against them. They get the job done and do it well, just like chase and Amex have done for me.

I once app'd and called in wanting to use the same INQ for a different card as I was traveling overseas and was hoping to get the MC chip and pin, but they would not budge to use the same INQ for the AMEX and use it for the MC. YMMV. COngrats on the approvals!

I really wasn't keeping track of my numbers till September of last year. I do have a 30-day late reporting (i've had some unsuccessful goodwill letters go through so I am just waiting) and a CO from 2010.

The starting score on my signature is what I had when i finally pulled my scores from here.

I have a Cap1 secured CC as well with a 1551 CL (weird number because c1 added $151 to my initial $500 deposit to open the account). I opened that tradeline first not having enough confidence that I would be approved for any CC or any of my mailed offers so I did it just in case I would not have a CL to match my 5k limit secured CC.

Now I am waiting again, the CSP is in my sights

Not at all. I was and still am a student and make ~30000 a year with my school benefits. My AAoA at the end of last year was 3 years till I went on an app spree.

There's no way for a secured card to unsecure with USAA so I app'd for their unsecured, rewards AMEX version and was instantly approved...I did it in feb of this year but I waited two years to get to that point, that's probably the "sucky" part. Although a lot of people have had successes in a shorter amount, I just decided to wait.

I'm glad I could help!!

I had a 5,000 secured CC for two years w/ USAA. May have helped me acquiring a 5,500 CL on the unsecured version when I app'd and closed my secured CC.

I received a lot of preapproved offers from amex, chase and a few others towards the end of my 2 yr secured agreement.

aberrant wrote:

A little background, I applied and was accepted for a Chase Freedom card back in December of last year with an initial $5000 credit line. Today is close to the six month mark and I wanted to try for a credit limit increase. So I called up Chase using the backdoor number to the executive offices. I spoke with a woman named Elissa, she was very pleasant to deal with. I began giving her some background as to why I wanted the increase. I told her that I'm tired of the crappy Bank of America rewards and that I was recently approved for the AMEX platinum card. I mentioned that I would like to continue to make charges on my Freedom card but with the amount I spend a $5,000 limit wont award me a sufficient enough utilization and with the Platinum card I would like to see Chase offer me some competitve advantage to encourage me to charge more on my Freedom card than my Platinum. She alerted me that chase would need to verify my income, etc, etc. and that it was a hard pull. I mentioned to her that I had no problem verifying my income but a hard inquiry was out of the question. I reiterated the fact that I need more of an incentive to spend money with Chase over AMEX and she said that she can put in a request for a soft inquiry and will get back to me in the next day. She also asked how much of an increase I wanted. I told her I believe an 8k limit would offer me sufficient utilization on the card (a 3k increase). I got off the phone with her and waited. Sure enough I logged in this morning to my Chase account to see a nice 8k credit limit! Now I'm not sure if this was a unique situation or if the threat of another competitor but it's certainly worth it to defend why you want the increase and let them know a hard pull is unacceptable.

So I'm excited but I will also be watching my credit report over the next couple of weeks and months to make sure that she wasn't lying about the soft pull. If she was indeed going to do a hard pull I don't see why she would have had to wait a day for it to process... good luck to the rest of you with Chase! Ask for Elissa if you call the backdoor executive offices.

December...six months...huh?

There is a significant change in payment behavior. I read an article last month which stated that Discover has less deliquency among its CC holders than other CCC over the past year. I think with people being more privvy to watch their debt or credit - and receving more of it - will edge up the deliqunecy factor for the next year as people will see more wiggle room (ex: CLI) and will push the envelope further.
