Because by law they can jack up the interest rate you qualify for by 2%, which is exactly what they tried to do to you.  Extra profit on the deal for them, and something very few people are aware of.....unless you read these forums :smileyvery-happy:

APPROVING BANK: local CU
BUREAU PULLED: Beacon 5.0
CREDIT SCORE: 621 (me) 540 (DH)

RETAIL/LEASE:28702
AMOUNT OF LOAN: 23993
TERM CONTRACTED: 72
APR/LEASE RATE: 7.24
MONTHLY PAYMENT:409
ANNUAL INCOME: 100k combined
MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTARY:With the help of everyone I was able to repair my credit and get a pretty decent APR.  Had to use hubby as cosigner for income but they used my score.  First auto loan and I put 3k down.  MSRP was $28702.  Dealer wanted 27k before TTL.  Showed him quotes from other dealers and he matched the price.  So we got a great deal.  They were one of the preferred lenders for the CU so we were able to drive off the lot with the car.  We are so excited and this car is sooooo pretty and drives like a dream.  Plus we had to leave one dealership because they wanted to sell us the car for the MSRP and went to this one.  I definately did my research to make sure I received this car at LESS then what people in my area are buying them for.

APPROVING BANK: Honda Financial Services
BUREAU PULLED: Experian, I believe
CREDIT SCORE: 407
CUSTOMER STATE OF RESIDENCE:OH
NEW/USED:new
YEAR OF VEHICLE:2012
MAKE:Honda
MODEL: Civic LX coupe
MILEAGE: 22
RETAIL/LEASE:retail
AMOUNT OF LOAN: 19,605
TERM CONTRACTED: 60 months
APR/LEASE RATE: 4.88
MONTHLY PAYMENT:369
ANNUAL INCOME: not a lot, under $40k
MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTARY:This was my fifth loan with Honda Financial, and the previous four were paid perfectly.  I believe this is the ONLY reason I got this approval.  No money down, and no crazy stips.  Didn't even need to give POI or references.  Of course, this is one of those moments where I'll never forget them giving me a chance when nobody else would, so I'm sure my next car will be a Honda, too.  lol.

BUREAU PULLED:  Equifax
CREDIT SCORE:  519
CUSTOMER STATE OF RESIDENCE:  OR

YEAR OF VEHICLE: 2010
MAKE: Chevy
MODEL: Aveo
MILEAGE: 37k

TERM CONTRACTED: 60 mos.
APR/LEASE RATE:  14.99%
MONTHLY PAYMENT: $384
ANNUAL INCOME: $43200
MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTARY: I know, I know... it looks bad.  But I got out of a 26.99% loan with a balance owing after a year of payments of about $600 less than the original amount. (I paid $360/mo.)  I rolled over about $4k in negative equity.  Put $600 down.  The special program through a local credit union allowed me to get the 14.99% rate despite my credit score.  I can refi in one year and will be established with the credit union for future loans.  I also qualify for an unsecured credit card through the credit union after 1 year.  Good bye 19 mpg, hello 30+!!

Approving Lender: Ford Motor Credit

Bureau Pulled: Equifax

Credit Score: Mine-640 Wife-655

Residence: Florida

New/Used: New

Year of Vehicle: 2012

Make: Ford

Model: Taurus SHO

RETAIL/LEASE: LEASE

Term: 36 months

Lease Rate: .25

Monthly Payment: $600.47 w/Tax

Annual Income: $146K

Misc. Commentary: We were shocked we got this rate. We are 18 months post Chapter 7 BK. We had some negative equity in the trade so we put down $5K to offset that. There was a $3250 rebate that went along with the lease. This rate is a Tier 1 rate obviously so we feel very good about our deal. Thanks to this forum I have been able to raise our scores significantly from were we started.  There is much good information on this forum.

APPROVING BANK: BMW Bank of North America

BUREAU PULLED: Experian

CREDIT SCORE: 588 Cosigner - 734

CUSTOMER STATE OF RESIDENCE: Texas

NEW/USED: Used

YEAR OF VEHICLE: 2009

MAKE: BMW MODEL: 528xi w/ Navigation

MILEAGE: 41894

RETAIL/LEASE: Retail

AMOUNT OF LOAN: $34436

TERM CONTRACTED: 60

APR/LEASE RATE: 3.9%

MONTHLY PAYMENT: $575.52

ANNUAL INCOME: 53K

MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTARY:  Decided to use my mom as the Cosigner. I'll pay 8 months and then refi to get her off. Fully loaded, everything I could possibly want. Kind of a high payment. But all I have is Cable, Electric, Rent, CS, and one credit card. So I can afford it. Less trips to Starbucks. :-) I've been reading this forum for months. It really helped me figure out what I wanted.
