If you parents agree to cosign, I would first apply on your own and then if they require, use your parents to do that. You parents must be able and willing to make the payments if you are unable to and you must pay that loan first above all other debt since they cosigned for you. It may be possible a year or two down the road to refi on your own in which case I would do that as soon as you can.
