All of the instructions are given with the understanding that the OP has enough common sense not to call the lending bank on her friends behalf and that her friend did not sign on her husband's behalf. I'm sure she would have mentioned this if it happened......
Their is nothing wrong with calling the lending bank and asking these questions if the OP's friend believes the contract she signed is not legitimate. She will probably not be the one charged for fraud. If anything, this will clear up the possibility of any fraud being committed by either party. If the OP wants to call and make sure the lending is legitmate and secured their is nothing dangerous about it.....
