I went to my chevy dealership as well, was decline there to.
How much car are you looking to buy and exactly what car? A down payment would have made it a lot easier probably, but carmax is a pretty good bet as mentioned if they have competitive prices for the car you are looking to purchase.

what is reported income?
age?
I make around $20,150 a year. They did have any trucks in my price range. My capital one secured credit card was open last Dec, I open my secured loan with Max credit union this Jan. I owe around $600 to Max. I just paid down my credit cards. I would like to close the capital one in dec to get a higher limit unsecured credit card.

at $20k a year you probably need to be looking in the $10k range to purchase and keep your payments under $300.
Its hard to find a decent truck in that price range. I may have to go back to being a carpenter agian.
