They count in yoru scoring and risk model the same as they do with any other type of lending.
Some lenders are more sensitive to inquiries than others, so if your application is presented to a lender who is sensitive to inquiries and you have too many to suit them, they will decline. Doesn't mean all lenders will refuse, but yes, they do count as much in auto lending as in any other sort of credit seeking.
