I currently have my checking account with a major bank, which I also have credit card with that would be included in my BK, if I file. I understand there are concerns about that and have now opened an account with another financial institution. I've read somewhere the BK can affect opening a new checking account, and the BK can show up in the Chexsystems banks use to assess opening new accounts. What are the facts on ths?

Based on my BK attorney's advice, I opened a separate checking account before filing, in a new institution I had no debt to. The BK filing didn't affect that account - I used TD Bank because the attorney advised that some banks will close a checking account due to BK filing.
National Banks can't legally use the "bankers' right of offset" to take the balance in your checking and apply it to your personal (not business) credit card debt.
After discharged I opened a Credit Union checking account (NFCU) with no problem.
