Re: Bankruptcy friendly credit cards

Funny, I tried applying for discover as well, my score was roughly 702 and I was declined due to my BK as well. Then they sent me a "pre-approval" letter, I app'd and they declined me again! So much for being pre-approved. I'm over them.

Take it with a grain of salt, I see plenty of people claim to recon discover.

Re: Bankruptcy friendly credit cards

I called the next day after applying and was approved, but I wouldn't have bothered getting a hard pull if I had known my credit limit would be a measly $1K.  They also changed the terms of what I applied for, but terms didn't matter to me since I PIF.  This was 6.5 yrs after BK.

Starting Score:9/2013 630
Current Score: 2/2015 myFICO scores: EQ 730 EX 734 TU 734

Re: Bankruptcy friendly credit cards

I was approved for Discover more about 2 years  post BK7 (October 2012). I applied online and was not approved immediately. I receiced a call from them and had to explain the reasons behind my BK filing after that I was approved for $1000 CL. I was so happy to get my foot in the door. My scores at the time were in the mid 600s. I had never had a discover card in the past, not sure if that factors in or not. Also worht noting I applied for discover when they still offered the more card.

Starting Score: 500s
Current Score: EQ: 708myFICO(7/15/17), TU: 721myFICO(7/15/17), EX: 701myFICO(7/15/17)
Goal Score: 750

Wallet: Discover IT $50300, Capital One Platinum $17000, Barclays Rewards $6700, Walmart $6000, Amazon Store Card $6000 Chase Sapphire Preferred $5000, Chase Sapphire Reserve $10000, Bank of America Cash Rewards $500. BestBuy $10000

Well, Discover seems to have some super duper secret internal scoring method no one else understands. They rejected me nearly 4 years post BK7 with scores in the upper 600s. The only reasons cited by the rejection letter was "Bankruptcy" and "Past or present delinquencies". So I call the number listed to speak with a credit analyst. I tell her a BK stays on your record for 10 years, are you telling me you never approve anyone who shows a BK on their CR? She says "no, of course not" but doesn't elaborate. I then ask her where she is seeing any past or prescent delinquencies, as I know my CR does not have any. She hesitates, and then replies that the # of derrogatory accounts indicates serious delinquency. I tell her no, they indicate that they were included in BK, there is no mention of me ever being late on them. Then she says "well, we can't approve you at this time, please apply again at a later time". I tell her "No, I'll never bother applying for your card again".

And I won't, they could send me a pre-approval letter with $10k CL and I'd toss it in the shredder. I only apped because their phony "prequal" page recc'd the IT card. Fool me once . .  .
