You might try the Open Sky secured visa, it's on the left in the row of credit cards here at the top of the foums.I've read they don't do any credit check. And you might want to start a small savings with a local credit union, they probably won't lend you anything right now with your scores & lack of payment history, but after you're a member for a couple of months you might try a secured installment or CC loan with them. I joined one last November and in Feb I got a $10k car loan for a 2013 car at 1.99% for 5 years, but I'm 4 years post BK with scores around 700. Or for an installment "loan" you might look at Self Lender, it's a type of savings account that reports as an installment loan.
@missgaonmymind wrote:After reading how BK friendly Capital One was, I decided to give them a try and they wont touch me. Yes, they were listed in my BK for less than $500. Even 6 months later post BK, I still can't get approved, not even for a secured card with them
Are you just relying on the pre-qual tool or have you done a hard app with them? My wife and I both burned them, she probably $1500 and me around $1000, and we have both been approved for the Platinum and Quicksilver cards, we are less than two months discharged.
If you're relying on the pre-qual tool, don't. Both times we applied the pre-qual told us "no", but a hard app and we were instantly approved.
Thanks, I will try Open Sky! I did join a credit union around December 2014. I'm hoping to build a relationship with them that will help my credit get stronger. They were going to re-fi my car I got in October, but I had to come up with few thousand since I a little upside down in the car. I did apply for a small personal loan of $500 just to see how that goes. I will remain hopeful and keep the car loan paying on time until my scores get stronger.
Intially, I was just looking at the pre-qual too, then yesterday I did a hard app. Maybe for me, time maybe the only thing to fix this.

Did they even pull your credit?
I don't think so because I didn't get a notification of inquiry from them.

Well, there is a positive in it Just needs to be more time between discharge. Cool thing is you can periodically try and they wont ever pull until you are off the "naughty list"
Its amazing how banks work sometimes...I still can't believe I have there best card for "excellent" credit...LOL Very thankful
Divaofsongs - After I posted about my approval we decided to try for my wife. She got approved for $3,000. When I looked at the
screen I thought it said $300 like mine but nope it said $3,000. I just don't understand. She burned them for much more than
me with our CH13. I had used them for over 20 years when we filed BK. Our scores are almost exactly the same so I have no clue
why she got that much.
Lee307 - Congrats to your wife! I totally know the feeling, the same happened for my husbnd and I. I got approved for $300 on my first card with them and my husband got approved for $300 on his first card with them, then we read that you can get a second card right away so the next day we each did the prequal app and chose the second card listed and my approval was for $500 on the second card but my husband was approved for $2000. I kept staring at the screen and had to make sure I was not seeing double zeros, lol.
I also liked the fact that because we applied for the second card within a day or two of our first card being approved, they only placed one inquiry on our credit reports and not two, so we got two cards for the price of one hard pull. But I love even more that those 2 little measly cards have received 3 CLI's so far and grown to a total of $10k+ in credit for me and $11k+ for my husband in just 18 short months. Between me and my husband, we had $20k+ in credit limits on those 4 cards combined in 18 months. Of course, that changed last week we took the plunge and applied for the Venture card and each got $10k starting limits, so our total credit with Cap One is $30k+ individually and $60k+ combined. That is just amazing to me being that it has only been 18 months since our discharge and since we opened our accounts! I am so happy we read about the second card because that really helped our credit with all those lines reporting. I spoke with a rep at Cap One and they said the excellent performance on the 2 cards we opened 18 months ago is the reason we were approved for the Venture card because that card requires excellent credit but the rep said excellent credit for them also takes into consideration your internal credit with them.
Another FYI: You might want to have your wife add you as an AU on her card so you have a $3k limit card reporting to your credit as well. We made each other AU's on all our cards.
