So, I was making timely payments on my car, a laptop and a small balance on a credit card. Then I received a letter in the mail from a mortgage insurer that they wanted 96K. My name was on a mortgage that my Ex-wife defaulted on after the housing crash. I filed a ch. 13 and my lawyer said that I would be relieved of that debt, but that my cosigner (Ex-W) would still be obligated on it.
My question is that my plan base says 40K which is twice what I owed on the car, laptop and CC. Yet, the trustee has not made any payments to the mortgage insurer. According to my lawyer, I will be payed off in October this year after 38 months and that the 40K reflects what I would pay if it had gone the full 60 months. Does this sound correct? I guess I'm just getting a little anxious for this to be over and don't want any surprises.
