Hi all... I filed ch 13 back in jan 2008. I'm being told that my ch 13 plan wasn't approved until april / may 2008 meaning that my chapter 13 will not end until april / may 2013. Is this correct?

Depends on what state you filed in. If you filed in Michigan I can definitely assure you that the clock doesn't start ticking until confirmation of your plan, which in your case would be the April or May. I think there are only like 2 or 3 states like this so you will have to verify that yourself.
If you are in Michigan and you filed in January and got approval in April, consider yourself lucky. I'm in Michigan and I filed in March and wasn't confirmed until September so my 60 month plan didin't officially start until September even though I had been paying monthly since March.
yes i filed in michgan and lo and behold my discharge won't come thru until May 2013... but good thing is... I received a letter in the mail stating that they are going to do a review of my account and that i need to provide my 2012 tax returns to them... everything else seems to be ok... i'm keeping my fingers crossed... i really can't wait. until this is over...
I also filed in January 2008 and mine is being discharged in March. I filed in Illinois, but I'm curious why you have to provide your tax returns? All I had to do was make my final payment and take the class on line!
Well today marks year 5 of confirmation of my 13 plan. Talked to the clerk at the trustee's office, my wage garnishment release order was faxed to my employer. So hopefully my next pay I will have extra funds TO SAVE!!!! I'll receive a refund and as soon as the final checks clear I will be free and clear!!!! This is ONE MONKEY OFF OF MY BACK!!! I'm glad to have my life back! I swear this has been one big lesson that I have learned the hard way, 5 loooooooonnnnnggg years.

CONGRATS!!! Boy do I know how that feels! I checked the 13datacenter so often that I was able to get my discharge papers on the same day that they were issued.
And true it's like having a monkey off your back, and now the rebuilding begins. I tell you what, I have done so well since my discharge. The advantage that you have is that even though you're going to be just discharged, the length of time since your bk starts at your filing date, and that is how I was able to rebound a lot easier and quickly. Good luck to you and your new life!!!
I still have about 2 more weeks, the trustee's office sent out the letter where creditors can object... but i can see light at the end of the tunnel.... keeping my fingers crossed that no creditor has any objections.
Today I got my discharge!!!! I'm happy as a CLAM!!!!! to those just starting out, get a secured card, and work on cleaning up your credit report during your 3 - 5 year plan! Good Luck and it's possible to make it to discharge!
