Chp 13 Discharge Process

Does anyone know what is actually entailed during the discharge process? I just got a letter from my trustee saying I owe less than one payment now-one month earlier than expected. It also says this is pending an audit of my acct and if they find I owe more, they'll contact me. I'm curious to know what exactly are they checking and why don't they know exactly how much you owe automatically? It would seem to me they would check that before sending the letter. Has anyone else experienced this and have you ended up owing any more money afterwards?

Luvmeirahbug, I don't know as I filed Chapter 7. It sounds to me they simply review the balances to make sure of exactly what is left to pay off.  It looks to me there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel.  Let me know how it goes.

Re: Chp 13 Discharge Process

OK, I will. I'm waiting to hear back from my lawyer as well. At the time of my post, she hadn't received her copy of the letter yet. Hopefully, she'll be able to shed some light on this as well.

Re: Chp 13 Discharge Process

The reply earlier is correct, I was recently discharged, I paid off a year earlier, the trustee gave me 30 day payoff quOte. My attorney called me approx three weeks after I mailed in money. I even got a check back from trustee saying I over paid

Where do you stand right now? (score, any CC's?)  What is your focus (i.e., higher score, new credit, house, etc.)?  Do you know what your trustee allows you to do?

Re: Chp 13 Discharge Process

*Update* I heard from my lawyer.  I'm not sure if this is a YMMV situation or not. I was told that the process will go as follows for me--

Trustee's office will audit the case, contact creditors to make sure the balances paid match trustee records.  Lastly, they would send some paperwork to my lawyer's office for me to sign.  Lawyer sends these documents back to the trustee and discharge papers would be finalized.  Process should be finished by next month.
