Your best bet would be to apply for Cap1. If not successfu, get a secured card but only if it's the ones you can convert to a regular card. USAA has some good ones if you're affiliated with the Military. Doesnt matter if you both apply for same card or not, just make sure whichever you two choose, use it well and pay ontime.
