Discharged, Burned most banks...where to start?

My Ch 7 (due to medical bills and job change) was recently discharged. YAY!! I am not in the position to give $500 for a secured card. I burned most companies in my Ch 7 (Cap1, Cred1, Discover, Citi, Chase, Amex, Sync, Comenity) but I reaffirmed my cars and have student loans. I am a member of NFCU so I applied for an unsecured to see and of course denial. Am I stuck with First Premier? Or should I just hold out until I can get the secured card? I've read about SelfLender but felt I don't need an installation loan since I already have loans that will report. Based on the Guide to 700 I should not get a store card, so any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

This is not my personal experience, but a family member included Capital One in their bankruptcy. They filed a Chapter 7 also. After 6 months from filing date, I applied for a Capital One card for them and they were instantly approved for $3,000. May not be the case in your situation. But it's worth a try. See if you can hold out as long as you can before applying. Enjoy the moment of not having to pay a credit card bill each month :-).

A store card or two isn't going to hurt your chances of reaching 700. Its when you get tons of them with tiny limits that they are an adverse thing. I've got several, as well as some secured cards and I'm already at about 630 just three months after discharge.

Thank you for your responses!! I will definitely stay far away from First Premier. I need new clothes for new job so a store card it is. I'll hold out until first pay for secured card. Slow and steady towards my goal.

NFCU's secured card does graduate, so it would be a solid choice once you can sock away the deposit funds

Good Luck!

NFCU secured never graduated for me. I had it over two years and they kept telling me to apply for a new one. Finally did app for cash rewards and got approved, at which point I closed the secured one.

Re: Discharged, Burned most banks...where to start?

I decided to join SDFCU becuase they have a secured cared with minimum $250 and 7.24% interest rate, which is doable for me. I don't know if it graduates but right now it's a start.

You ARE correct actually.. NFCU secured card does indeed graduate. They used to graduate on the 13th month but we have seen multiple recent success stories around the 7th month.
