We are hopefully a week or so away of getting our Chapter 13 plan agreed to. That being said, I looked at my credit report today and my score was 458. I used to have great credit, but I also had almost 60k in debt before waking up and realizing that we could not carry this debt indefinitely and making the gut-wrenching decision to file. I am reminding myself that this was the best decision long term, but the anxiety of dealing with the decision and process in the short term is brutal.
My question is, from a credit score perspective, what should I do? Do I just let it ride and monitor? I know that there are specific rules for Chapter 7 and the 2 year plan to raise your score, but I dont think that there is anything to be done for Ch 13?
Anyone with more history with Chapter 13 have any advice? Please?
Make the payments according to your plan and once completed and with discharge in hand you start to rebuild.
For me it's been pretty painless... I started with a $1000 Cap One card the week of my discharge and over the last 14 months have grown to the accounts and scores you see in my sig.
I didn't follow any guides I just applied for credit. I didn't need any secured cards to get started either. A 13 looks better on you than a 7 for obvious reasons and the rebuilding comes faster and easier.
Don't forget a completed 13 falls off your reports 7 years from filing date... instead of 10 with a Chapter 7.
Got it. Thank you for the feedback.
