If I were in your shoes, I would do everything in my power to stay in NFCU's good graces. I would call them after the card gets activated to find out when the due date is and when the statement cut off date is. I would make sure the balance is at 10% or less.

i would also build up my savings and take advantage of every promo they offer. I would also wait 6 months to a year and apply for a CLOC.

I would also follow the 700 in 24 thread.  It does work!
