I am wondering if, for those of you that are members of NFCU, if you use them as your primary banking source. I have always used PNC for all my direct deposits and primary banking needs but after my CH7 decided to open up my NFCU account because I heard they are great for re-establishing credit. I have $25 direct deposited into my checking and $25 deposited into my savings each week but that is really the only activity I have with them. I want to apply for a credit card through them around August and I am wondering if I would have a better chance of a decent credit limit/approval if I began using them as my primary? My concern with using them as my primary is that they don't have a physical location nearby. Suggestions?
We use them for everything. We switched after filing and being cut off from USAA. We have never had any complaints and have never had a need for a local banking branch.
For deposits I just take pictures on my phone and deposit online and for cash, we never really used ATMs anyway, I just get cash when we go to the grocery store or something.
Great, thank you! Have you applied for any type of credit accounts through them? I am wondering how generous they are if and when they can see what is coming and going from the checking acct!
We both got approved for cards through them while we were still in an active 13 case. No luck getting them to say yes on a mortgage yet but we keep trying.
Absolutely love NFCU and use them for everything! Checking, savings, credit, auto loan and investments. very helpful to us who have a BK. I am on my phone and can't see your signature...about 6 months post d/c you have a very good shot at approval! GL
1. switch to them if you want
2. BUT WHY ARE YOU WAITING TO APPLY FOR A CREDIT CARD???
Close Credit One and go open a Navy Credit card... that alone will probably make you want to move all your banking to them because they will give you nice credit cards and service even with the bk!
I opened a savings account with them one a wednesday, Got my $50 from "being referred by" my dad. Few days later I applied for a pre approval on my auto loan. I got 2.79 on a 72month. They origanaly approved me 4.79 84 months at $25000.
Week later applied for a cashRewards card and was approved for $2500 at 11.99 plus prime.
I wont be using them as my primary due to the fact that its nearly 4 hours to the closes branch. I do have a Direct deposit out for my auto payment and a little extra so I can use the wonderful card they gave me.
@whydoineedaname, when was your discharge? I just opened a checking and saving with them as well. I applied and didnt get approved. It may be due to the face that was not discharged yet. I had my reaffirmation agreement it was approved, I am just waiting on discharge the judge said it should be within a week.

It was like 14-15 months ago.
The only reason I have waited to apply for a credit card with them is because I have numerous inquiries on my CR at the moment and have heard that they don't like to see that when app'ing. I have about 4-5 inquiries that are going to fall off this summer so I thought I would wait until August and apply. Although I will say I am VERY anxious to get in the door with them considering how generous everyone says they are with their CL's!
