Hi all.
I'm awaiting discharge on my 13. I'm wondering how soon after discharge will I have to start paying my student loans and when people talk about getting a 1099 from their private student loans what does that mean?
Thanks in advance! And thank you for all of the help. This forum is an excellent source of information.
Sallie Mae contacted me about 2 weeks after I got my discharge to let me know my payments would be resuming and I had a due date 30 days later.
If you don't hear from your lender soon you'd be wise to contact them.
Thank you for your reply! I've moved since filing....I'd hate for that to get lost in the shuffle!!
My chapter 13 was discharged August 28, 2014. I still have not heard from ECMC whom the loan was transferred to when I filed. I have tried contacting them 3 times but can never get through and they have not responded to my emails. My payments were current up until the month after I filed. I did go ahead and start making payments on my own in January though their website but they have not reported anything to the credit bureaus. My account on their website still says in forbearance due to chapter 13. Not really sure what to do at this point except continue making payments each month.

I'd contact the original lender.
My loans were with Sallie Mae... went to ECMC for the duration of my Ch13 and then went back to Sallie Mae when I was discharged. The original loans were closed and new loans were opened with the same origin date as the original loans.
I have the original accounts reporting closed IIB on my reports and new accounts reporting current PAA.
Thanks for the advice. I didn't even think about contacting the original loan holder (Great Lakes). On my credit report it says Sold/Transferred - no late payments, no balance.
Thank you both for the information. I went on the website and there weren't any loans anywhere. I've been paying $50 outside of my plan to ECMC as was outlined in my ch. 13. At least it sounds like I'll have a few months to save until they come knocking. You discharge has occurred, but has your case closed? I was told I couldn't get the title from my car until the case was closed, so quite possibly the student loans don't come due until after closure either.......just a thought.

I'm pretty sure it is closed. We received the title for the 2 cars we paid off through the CH13. The only thing I can think of is that they weren't notified of the discharge. We did pay it off 7 months early. ECMC has been a little difficult to get a hold of. I'm curious how the loan will report once it does start reporting again. I was not in default before we filed and I'm worried that once it reports again, it will be negative and bring down my credit score.
I was current when I filed too. I'm also scared for how it will report as well. I hear horror stories of people asked to pay the entire amount on the private loans or to settle and frankly, I don't want to settle! I don't want to do anything that may hurt my scores. I need my great credit back again. I just want to start paying and that is that! I have a TON of loans and I don't want to be 80 years old and still paying. Let me know how it turns out for you and I'll let you know if I hear first.
dt3813 - how did this end up turning out for you? I will still have about $10k of private SLs to pay once my ch 13 is discharged. Don't want any surprises!
