I need help on what to do now to rebuild my credit. What cards should I apply for, how long I should wait? I do want to get another mortgage soon so what are my options?
Thanks All!
Time to take a deep breath and relax for just a minute, plan everything out.
I'm on that long road with you. Discharged in March, started to really look at my credit again in June. I didn't think I would be able to qualify for anything for a long time, so I opened an OpenSky secured card first. It required no credit check and the fees aren't onerous.
Shortly after that I found this forum and it opened my eyes to the possibilities that are out there. The posts here led me to the Cap1 preapproval site and low and behold, I was approved for 2 unsecured cards from them.
Keep your head up and keep plodding away. It may not have taken long to create the mess, but it does take awhile to clean it up.
Good luck!
So I tried Cap1 and was denied. I should do OpenSky first?
I would do OpenSky. The annual fee is $29. No credit check. However, it isn't easy to increase your limit once you start. You have to mail a check into them and after the first year it is $25/increase.
Other than that, they have treated me well so far.
