I highly recommend that you start with a local credit union. Ch 13 is not a bad as a Ch 7. In the former, you paid your negotiatiated amounts under court supervision. In the latter, most creditors get nothing. You current mortgage is a huge asset for rebuilding credit. If approved for unsecured credt cards, your limits will likely be relatively low so don't expect too much. Sounds like you are well on your way to a healthy credit profile. Congrats on what you have accomplished so far and your obvious interest in managing your credit wisely going forward. Best wishes and do share your followup actions so we can celebrate with you and/or learn from your experiences.
Congratulations. I understand how it feels to have a Ch 13 discharged. I also understand your fear in checking your FICO. I have to admit, I just couldn't check mine until over a year had passed. It will get better.
The first card I was offered was Credit One. People don't have much good to say about them because they are a sub-prime card, but when you are newly discharged that is about all you can get unless you do a secured card. They helped me to rebuild my credit. After Credit One, I got a card thru HSBC, which is now Capital One, Legacy invited me to apply with a pre-approval, which I did and today that CL is $2k. Legace is by invitation only, but don't know how they determine who to invite.
A Credit Union might be the best way to go. At least when you go in and talk to them, hopefully, they can lead you in the right direction
I believe there is a thread on here regarding BK friendly cards, also.
At some point you will have to pull all of your fico scores to see just exactly where you stand. It is scary, but once you know what your fico's are, you will know how to proceed
Good luck...
Can you tell me in which district you filed and whether you ahd to pay 100% of all debt to get the early discharge?
Thank you
