i keep receiving weird calls from a local number so today i answer it, i get luxuary to talk to a nasty woman who seems to know all about my2013 bk and whom i filed it with and states that i owe a 2012 payday loan. when i asked her kindly to stop calling my house everyday she say oh i will call you everyday and hung up. so i called her back and she answered, then she says oh you filed BK so forget about it, so my mind is left with seveal questions, 1 if you knew i filed then why are you calling me? 2. why are you calling me about a debt i dont own (i never used a payday) and how do you know the last 4 of my social and whom i filed with, I know there are sites like pacer and the bk report but how did these ppl get my home and cell phone numbers... anyone with simular stories or insight?
oh i had some very choice and colorful words and came out or in to character (lol). I did remember that it is illegal to keep calling after you tell them not to, i just reported the number to the DNC.gov registry although i dobut it will help, just al lil sore because she knew my informatiion and i know it was a scam because i googled the number. What ticked me off was she was so nasty to begin with maybe because i knew her game beacuse beleive me i read her her rights if you know what i mean.
Similar story here. I had an unsecured loan that I defaulted on when the economy exploded back in 08-09. I filled bk as a result. Every so often they still try and collect. The last time I received a collection letter from them I emailed them back with a copy of there collection letter, bk filling/case number, date of filling, and court house info.
I also CC'd a copy of that email to the CFPB.
I have NEVER heard from them again!
In your car, op, the debt is not even yours! Ludicrous, I say!

OP, I feel your pain. I signed up for one of those triple TV-INTERNET-HOMEPHONE plans where some poor sole has just given up the phone number assigned to me maybe 6 months prior. None of my friends or relatives know this number so I recieve three kinds of calls...... solicitors.......some from the local school board about the previous phone number owner's kid is skipping school AGAIN or some collection agency about a past due bill. I start arguing with the CA rep about why I should pay the bill they are calling me about to see how far they will go. After awhile I tell them they've contacted the wrong person. I guess I'm not very nice to bill collectors.
I had one place call me and that's it. I asked her for her name, rep id #, name of company....then she stopped me to finally ask why I wanted this info. I simply said, "the debt was IIBK and I am noting every time you call in case I want to sue" All I heard was CLICK hahahaha
