I am interested in the Chase Ink Plus card...I am looking for some insight as to if I would qualify for the card.
I am a nurse, I'm not sure if this would qualify me for the card but here are the reasons why I think I might be able to obtain one. Let me know what you all think.
1. I am required to have 30 hours of continuing education per license renewal period and attend reimbursed conferences periodically. The conferences themselves are reimbursed by my employer. I have to foot the cost of lodging and meals for conferences away from home.
2. I utilize my cell phone to look up drugs (dosing, side effects, etc.) This requires cellular data. I am not reimbursed for this.
3. I have to provide my own stethescope, watch, writing tools. This is not a reimbursed cost.
4. I have to renew my license yearly in one state and every other year in another state. This is not a reimbursed cost.
5. I sometimes use my home internet to complete required work education / emails / etc. I am paid for the time spent working / educating at home.
There are some other things but you all probably understand where I am going with this. Do you think I would qualify for the card?
My answer? NO. These are personal expenses used for business, not business expenses. There is a difference. You might be able to deduct these from your taxes, but unless you are doing busines for yourself as your own entity, then it wouldn't qualify.

My guess is the answer is "no".
However, these kinds of expenses appear to fit within the 1040 Schedule A "unreimbursed employee expenses" category.
So you could try calling several of the small business CC issuers like Amex and Chase and US Bank, and ask them specifically about this question.
If not a business CC, then you could dedicate a personal CC to this area, for example the Fidelity Amex 2% one.
It seems like you would have to keep records in order to take the deduction, and having a separate CC for this purpose would help in keeping your records straight.
100% does NOT qualify. Those are personal expenses.
