AMEX CL increase w/o asking for it ?

Folks:

I've had AMEX credit cards for the last 10+ years - I currently have a Platinum AMEX (since 2010 - Gold before that), & and AMEX Clear.

On the Clear - my credit limit for the last 8 years or so was 17K. I never requested a CL increase, as I didn't need it. About three months ago, I got an email from AMEX - "your CL has been increased to 20K". And about a week ago, another one - "your CL has been increased to 23K"

Is this normal/expected ? As I said before - I was OK w/ the 17K limit. Does AMEX review accounts now and then, and increase CLs on their own ?

It's in their fine print they have the right to increase or decrease your credit whenever they want .

After a year with my blue cash, amex sent me an email offer to increase my limit, they havn't "auto increased" it

Amex Blue Cash Everyday: $25,000 | Navy FCU Cash Rewards: $25,000 | Discover It: $20,500

The only things I've done as of lately that may have to do w/ it (in case it helps build a pattern of why/when they increase a CL on their own):

a) bought a new car on Nov/2013 - got a loan for $40,000 @ 2.44% from PNC

b) switched from using my AMEX Platinum almost exclusively (not carrying a balance) to using my AMEX Clear almost exclusively (rarely carrying a balance). The switch was mainly due to a request from my wife. She usually trades the points for gift cards from stores, but AMEX Platinum does NOT offer GCs for some of the stores she frequents - and getting an AMEX GC from points on AMEX Platinum costs 100% more than getting a GC for a store - while AMEX Clear doesn't have that penalty.

Maybe they saw the increased usage on the Clear and decided "let's give him more rope, see if he hangs himself w/it" . . .
