Hey all,
I recently redeemed all of the remaining rewards on my $89 AF Arrival World MasterCard in preparation for a PC out of the AF product. So I called just a few minutes ago to see if the folks at Barclays would give me a PC to the Barclay Rewards card. The first CSR I talked to tried to transfer me to the Applications division because she didn't really understand what I was asking. When I told her I wanted to keep my existing account and just change to a different card, for example the No-AF Arrival, she called this process "downgrading" and said she would have to check to see if my account was eligible. Once she pulled up that screen she immediately transferred me to a specialists" to complete the rest of my call. Apparently, I am profitable enough to get help from a higher level of customer service.
Once transferred to the new rep, I asked if I could PC to the Barclay Rewards card. She said it was no problem, read me the disclosure and even told me I would get a $10 bonus the first time I used the card! I call that effective customer service, but the next thing out of her mouth was even better. She asked if I would like a CLI with just a soft pull, and I jumped on the offer since I hadn't received a CLI from Barclays in the 10 months I had the card. After providing details on my income she told me I received a $3,000 CLI and asked if there was anything else she could do. I wish I was more prepared, since I probably could have asked for her to get me Red Sox season tickets at a discount and it would have happened. But alas, I said no thank you and moved on with my night.
TL;DR: Call Barclays for a downgrade on your $89 AF Arrival, since it is now clearly possible.
Congrats, this is great insight, thanks for the info!
Congrats! Thanks for sharing.
