@CotySinz wrote:Yeah for everyday spending the BCE (or upgrading to the BCP) would maximize rewards for everyday purchases.
Green is 1x on all purchases.
BCE is 3% cash back at U.S. stand-alone supermarkets, 2% cash back on gasoline at U.S. stand-alone gas stations, 2% cash back at select major department stores; and 1% cash back on other purchases.
BCP is 6% cash back at U.S. stand-alone supermarkets, 3% cash back on gasoline at U.S. stand-alone gas stations, 3% cash back at select major department stores; and 1% cash back on other purchases but has a $75/yr AF but a promo for $150 back if you spend 1k in 3mo.
So if you want to maximize rewards with Amex then I think the choice is obvious. There are also other cards to look at for rewards such as Chase Freedom, US Bank Cash+, Discover IT so on.
Has anyone broken out or outlined the benefits of the more popular cards all in one tight list for comparison purposes ?

This post feels like a long time ago. I have since done this.
I now have a very detailed spreadsheet directly comparing all Amex/Chase/Discover/Citi cards.
distantarray has a lot of information
US Bank Cash+ 6.25% (5% + $25 gift card if redeemed right at $100 denominations) of two categories of your choice also 2% cash back on gas, groceries or drug stores
Citi Forward 5% Restaurants and entertainment 5% movies bookstores etc which includes Amazon.com (classified as a bookstore)
Capital One Venture card 2% back on everything (but have to spend 10k+ to offset the annual fees over zero annual fee
Capital One Cash 1.5% cards)
US Bank Flex Perks upto 6% back on charitable donations. and upto 4% back on gas, groceries or airline travel. + cell phone expenses (upto meaning their reward structures in tiers. like you need 20k points to buy upto $400 ticket, and $401 - $600 ticket would cost you 30k points)
PenFed Platinum Rewards provides the best gas rewards, with 5 points per dollar spent on gasoline at any station
PenFED 5% groceries
PenFED 5% travel card
Costco's True Earnings card from American Express This one has to be mentioned because the business version gives you 4% off on ALL gas stations including Costco gas, so if you primarily shop Costco gas, this card would save you the most out of any gas cards. Also the annual fee is waived every year you renew your CostCo membership.
Amex Starwood with Star points valued 2.3 – 5 cents a piece when used correctly, plus offers bonuses for airline transfer points this makes it the most versatile travel card on the market
Amex Platinum No other card offers travel perks for frequent flyer than this. with benefits like $200 a year airline credit, free global pass, free priority pass and much more easily making this a absolute must for anyone who does atleast 1 international trip a year.

PenFed Plat Rewards is 3% on groceries, not 5% (but it's uncapped, so a great back up for BCP for big grocery spenders).
Also, I've become very fond on my new (to me) Fidelity Amex. I think everyone should have a 2% on everything card, either this or the Barclays Priceline Visa. No more 1% spending....
