Recently turned 18, should I try the recon line for CSP

So I turned 18 recently on Nov 3 and while looking over credit cards, but before realizing the possibility of being denied I decided I liked the Chase Sapphire and went ahead and applied for it seeing as I've been banking with them for about 3 years and the card looks amazing. Well I didn't get an approval and It says they'd let me know their decision in writing in 7-10 days. So right after that I did more research and decided to play it safe and apply for a Discover it student card and was automatically approved with 500 CL. And then 2 days later I decided to apply for the Amex BCE card as it looks awesome and I like the rewards and what it offers and I was instantly approved with a 2000 CL. So I was wondering should I just take the risk and try to recon maybe for a CSP? Cut my losses and start gardening? Or is there some other cards I should apply for that could help me build credit?

Chase likes to see a year of history before issuing credit, although they have given with less. I don't think you would be able to successfully recon the CSP. The freedom would be an easier card to get but I was denied the freedom when I tried to get it for my first card. YMMV

Amex without any previous credit history? Were you an authorized user on someone else's account?

Chase will want at least one year of good history before approving you. I wouldn't apply for anything else right now because most 187 year olds don't need larger than $2,500.00 in available credit haha

Well done though! Off to a good start

Agreed haha, but it's better to be safe than sorry at a young age and not take on too much. Prove yourself for a year, make paykments on time and in full, then assess where you are at. It's all too easy to make a mistake at 18 that you end up regretting down the road.

I wouldn't recommend recon for the CSP. I know it looks and sounds flashy, but a card like that won't really get you anything except for annual fees down the road unless you have the income and spend pretty heavily on the card, which is doubtful for most teenagers.

Call for the recon. Period. You already took the HP for it, you have nothing to lose by asking them to look it over. The only reason not to is if you dont trust yourself with that many cards.

Original poster could, but I'd put it at 99.9% they will not overturn the decision in this case
