AMEX Delta Gold Approval and Charge Card Denial same day

I applied the other day for a Gold Delta Skymiles account (Pre-Approved on Amex site) Approved fpr $1000SL.. Immediately applied for Amex Green Charge Card folloeing approval and was denied. Immediately called to recon and they said I need to wait so the denail letter.. Would love to have both due to account and reimbursement for work expenses. How long should I wait to re-apply for the charge card?
