Opened the Card back in 2012 as with a SL of $1k and been stuck there ever since. Perfect payment history until 2015 with 3 lates then perfect history since. FICO scores are low which is probably the main reason (TU 644 EXP 640 EFX 636).
Income is over $200k and spend was nearly $60k on the card during 2017 alone. Basically I charge, then pay the next day or week to $0, then charge, and pay etc etc. With such a low limit this is the only thing I could do.
This can't be an income or spend/usage issue for those in the same boat. Overall Util is 12%. Never a BK or CO with AMEX. Other cards with $8k, $12k limits. If there is any explaination other than scores and the 3 dings in 2015, I'd love to hear them.
If you have a credit monitoring service like CreditCheckTotal or even Credit Karma go to the section Factors affecting your score. Those are the reasons you are having issues with Amex. Additionlly you have a rebuilder limit and probably wont go up much. Raise your scores another 50 points, and apply for another amex card. At least you have other cards to play around with til you fix your report.
Good luck
I have a bunch of baddies from 2015 across various lines of credit that won't be gone until 2021 at the earliest. Given the amount of spend I've put on the card over 6 years (roughly $250k equating to roughly $8k (~3%) in merchant fees they profited from), I was hoping for something....guess not. Risk is risk irrespective of income or spend...I get it. My fault. I'll simply use another card going forward. Thanks for the input.
I think the hardest thing to remember is that sometimes we get upset that banks don't do what we want, but you have to decide what is most important to you. Is it big limits? Return on spend? I try to remember to use the card that is going to give me the most, or give me the most for what I am currently looking for. Sometimes that means using my highest limits, and sometimes that means using my lowest.

On this board we see a lot of $1,000 CL Amex cards stuck for years without a CLI, even when the cardholder's credit improves greatly over the years. It seems that some/most Amex cards with a $1,000 starting CL get treated differently than other Amex cards, and it looks like you've gotten stuck in that bucket as well. Then again, the low scores and late payments probably aren't helping either.
If your credit improves over the next year or so and you still can't raise that $1,000 limit, it might be worth applying for another Amex to see if you can get something with a higher starting limit.
Sorry to hear about your denial Amex is an amazing bank you may just have to wait for luv.
When my Experian score was 688 Last December I applied for the Gold Delta and was granted a $1k limit (I was upset). My utilization was 33%. Income mid $100s. AAoA 3.5yrs. 5 Inquiries. Lots of new accounts (15+) from an app spree. 90 Days later I paid down my utilization to 6% and my score shot up to Exp 730 (so far - more TLs need to update). Anyway I applied for a 3X increase an it was approved. I'll do it again in 6 mos.
AMEX will approve you for a CLI when your negative issues are far behind you and your scores have improved. You may not be stuck at $1k forever.
