Re: Amex APR help

AMEX is kind of weird about APR reductions at least in my experience of 1 time so far.  I asked them for a perm reduction and they said no.  I asked if threre was a 0% and they said no.  I asked if there were any offers on my account at all and they said yes and dropped it 3% for 12 months to 14.74%.

Everyone around here says to ask every 6 months or so for a review of offers.  I'm not sure they'll do much though if you're under a temp reduction.  Never hurts to bug them about it though just like their CLI's they need to be pestered about things to get them to do anything.

Re: Amex APR help

I logged into my account earlier this month and there was a pop up that offered a 9.99 for 12 months but each time I clicked on it, it would log me out, so I tried chat and they told me I would need to call, which they provided the number for. I called and spoke with the CSR for a few minutes and they added that to my account. So I would say you do have to call in, but if you don't have a targeted offer, you may not get a reduction....

Re: Amex APR help

I think it is profile and even card dependent.

I was able to get my SPG card down to 10.99% (after recent prime rate increases) and it is on a 12-month 6.99% purchase APR offer. Started at 16.24% in Aug 2015.

My Delta (now Platinum, was Gold) is still at the high APR of 19.99% and it was my first AMEX in 2013. That card got a 12-month purchase APR at the end of 2014 for 6.99% but try as I might, I can't get them to lower the regular APR. They offered a 1% temporary reduction for 12 months from Dec 2016. Thanks! Smiley Mad

Hilton card also lowered APR somewhat. Started 19.24% in Apr 2015, got it to 15.24% by Sept 2015, but haven't tried more because it's not used much.
