App advice

Hello everyone,

I've recently been browsing the boards and I'm greatful for all of the amazing information I've found and also upset that I didn't find the site sooner!

I'm thinking about going on an app spree and wanted to get some advice. My goal is to transfer some balances I have on other cards and possibly get 1 or 2 more rewards cards. My current stats are as follows.

CapitalOne Venture Platinum Visa - $1734 balance / $4750 limit, 17.9%, opened 02/07

BoA BankAmericard Cash Rewards Platinum Plus Visa - $3063 balance / $3500 limit, 0% promo ends 2/15, 14.9% after, opened 10/13

CapitalOne Platinum MC (Authorized User) - $1466 balance / $2500 limit, 17.9%, opened 03/12

Not sure if these matter but..

Jared store card - $61 balance / $7500 limit, opened 08/10, 1 "30 days late" in 04/12

WFFNB/Mattress Firm - $1951 balance / $2800 limit, opened 05/13

SYNCB/Ashley Homestores - $2427 balance / $4000 limit, opened 08/14

SYNCB/Discount Tire - $485 balance / $1800 limit, opened 10/11

I also have a "60 days late" on a student loan in Oct. of 2009.

CreditCarma shows my TU score at 699 and Equifax at 716

CapOne credit tracker shows TU at 658

Credit Sesame shows Experian score of 696

With all that being said, anyone have any thoughts? I was thinking of going for Chase Slate and/or Freedom, Discover it, and AmEx everyday card.

Thanks in advance for any input/advice!

App spree or garden?

I made my first post yesterday with little response (albiet I posted in the wrong section :/) so I'm changing my question a bit.

I'm trying to decide if I should app spree or stay in the garden a bit longer. My current stats are:

EX (FICO) - 696, TU (CK FAKO) - 699, EQ (CK FAKO) - 716

UTI-41%

Baddies - Have a 30 days late with Jared in March 2013 (TU EX EQ) and a 60 days late with US DEPT ED in Oct. 2009 (TU EQ)

0 Derogatory Marks

AAoA is 5yrs 9mos

7 Inquiries on TU (Most recent was in Dec 2013)

7 Inquiries on EX (Most recent was SYNCB in Aug 2014, all others in 2013)

3 Inquired on EQ (All in March of 2013)

1 recent retail account (Aug 2014)

Most recent credit card opened in Oct 2013

Chase Pre-Qual site offers me Freedom and Slate and Discover pre-qual offered the Discover it card. I'd like to do a BT from my Capital One Venture Visa($1700) and my BankAmericard Cash Rewards Visa($3000) to new cards and pay them off over the 14-15 month 0% period.

Re: App spree or garden?

Tough question.

The lates may come into play... and your UTI might affect any CLs you get.  INQs should be ok.

I can't speak for Chase because I have never applied for their cards... but with Discover you can probably expect a small CL... that's normal with them it appears.

To app or not?  Flip a coin.  Smiley Happy

FICO8 current as of : 4-17-24 EQ: 724 TU: 707 EX: 706
Hard INQs last 12 months: EQ: 5 | TU: 8 | EX: 9
Verizon Visa $8500 Amex Delta Reserve $10,000 Care Credit $18,000
NFCU CashRewards $7500 Apple Card $7000 Best Buy $8000 Amazon $5000
NFCU auto loan (2022 Ford Bronco Sport Badlands - Cactus Gray) 6.95%
NFCU motorcycle loan (2024 Harley Davidson Road Glide - Alpine Green & Chrome) 9.45%
Total CL: $64,000 --- Total CC UTI: 27% --- AAoA: 5.5 years --- Income: $200k
Last app: 4-6-24

Re: App spree or garden?

Kind of what I'm afraid of..I tried to get Jared to GW my late payment since I have recently paid the account in full, but was unsuccessful. After browsing the forums I made an online dispute via TU (couldn't do online via EQ) on my US DEPT ED late payment since they're no longer servicing the loan, we'll see how that goes.

Re: App advice

Just wanted to update where I'm at at see if I can get some advice.

I was able to get some CLI's without hard pulls, got +750 on my Cap1 card and +500 on my wife's cap1 that I'm an AU on. UTI across all CC accounts should be at 39% once my reports refresh. I was also able to get a 60 day late student loan payment removed, so I'm left with one 30 day late from April 2012.

I have pre-qual offers from Chase for Slate and Freedom, Discover website shows "personalized offer" for the Discover it Card, and CardMatch shows "special offers" for 5 different AmEx cards (Premier Rewards Gold, Blue Cash Preferred, Blue Cash Everyday, Platinum Card, EveryDay Preferred). Mail offers have also been coming in for the Chase and Discover cards mentioned above as well as a Barclaycard rewards mastercard and a First National Bank of Omaha AmEx.

I also checked on a Lending Club offer and I qualified for 7.49% rate (9.57% APR) 36 month or 6.98% / 8.48% 24 month loan.

I know my UTI will prevent me from getting a high CL, but my plan is to app spree and get as much of my $6720 in balances over to the 0% intro rates on the cards and then If need be I'll do the Lending Club offer for the rest.

All this leads to my question...is there a particular order I should app for these cards? I've read the Chase pre-qual is pretty spot on, so I think I'll do the slate first since they have the $0 BT fee, I just don't know what should come next.

BTW, my EX FICO is 696 as of 01/06 and my CK vantagescore 3.0 (I know, I know) is TU-708 and EQ-725

Re: App advice

You can ignore the offers from Discover and cardmatch. They aren't real pre qualifications. The Chase offers are, they're usually good to go. That said, Discover will probably give you a card. They did me, and I have weak Fico scores. Amex also gave me a card, the Everyday. I think you'd also get approved.

Re: App advice

PS: Did you actually do the preliminary ap on Lending Club's site, or just get an offer? I got one of those offers, did the ap and got denied. The preliminary ap is a soft pull.
