Capital One Recon Help

I often read the forums here for advice and ways to utilize and manage my credit cards and credit profile.  I believe this is my first post.

I currently have the following on my profile.

Capital One Platinum - $570

Quicksilver One - $2,500

Journey - $1,500

GMC Buy Power - $300 (not yet activated and probably not going to activate)

Credit One - $1,000

Discover IT - $1,500

Chase Southwest Premeir - $4,000

Amex Everday - $500

BankAmericard - $1,000 (Coming in the mail)

Matrix - $300

PayPal Credit - $1,200

Utilization - 35%

The cards bolded and underlined, I am trying to close and replace with one card.

I originally wanted to close just my Matrix and Creditone due to high interest rates and monthly charges, but after numeroud failed attempts to get my Cap1 Platinum limit closer to my other 2 Cap1 cards, I've decided it was time to get rid of it.

I called CapitalOne to try to get the limit raised after being denied AGAIN online.  The rep I spoke to said there was noway to reconsider the decision on their end, that the system already denied me and that was that.  She suggested I talk to an application specialist and apply for a new card and transfer my balance to that card.

I talked with an app specialists going over the different cards for almost 30 minutes, he didn't speak good english and it was almost impossible to communicate efficiently with him so I thanked him for his help and said i would apply online.  After doing research on what card I may like and use the most, I chose the Venture due to the fact that we travel alot during the summer for my daughters softball travel team.

I applied online, was denied and got the 7-10 day notice.  Doing some research here, I found a succesful story in which a poster was denied and then called in for recon.  The number he dialed was 1-800-903-9177.  I call this number and told the rep the story I explained above.  She said the same thing that the other lady said.  She said that she was sorry but Capital One could not get me approved for this card at this time, and I should be getting a letter in 7-10 days explaining why.  I asked her specifically if there someone I could talk to about a reconsideration explaining that I was almost sure that I was denied because I already have 3 Cap 1 cards and recent inquiries in an effort to try to replace these cards.  She told me "No sir.  We do not have a department that does reconsiderations.  Once the system denies you that is it."  She then suggested that I wait for the mail to come, research the reasons as to why I was denied, either dispute them to the credit agencies or fix them and apply again.

Reading all over this forum I've seen people just like me getting ahold of a recon line after denial and getting approved after talking with an agent.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might get this problem solved by either a CL increase on my platinum or getting approved for the Venture.  Thanks in adavance.

Re: Capital One Recon Help

When it comes to Cap 1, the best thing to do is call the EO and have a manual review done. The EO is very good in regards to CLI requests and PC's.

Re: Capital One Recon Help

Sorry about the denial and welcome to the forum.  CAP 1 does not recon denials.  You best action will be to reach out to their EO as a lot of people have been successful going that route.

Re: Capital One Recon Help

Does anyone have the number?  I found the email address, but figure it's less likely to get a response than a phone call.  Thanks!

You are only allowed two sub-prime cards with CO, so maybe you were denied based on that?. Plus you already have 4 CO cards - why do you need a 5th? There are other lenders out there. The fact that you were only approved for $300 with the Buypower card means CO is most likely done extending you lines of credit.

At any rate, ask the EO for a $3000 limit increase on your $570 Platinum. Tell them you use the card and pay it off several times monthly, because the limit is so low. You can casually mention that you have other cards with higher limits, and it's easier for you to move your spending to them, since you only have to pay them off once a month Smiley Wink  If you're spending enough with the card, they should have no problem raising the limit for you. This would allow you to close your starter cards.

Awesome.  Thank you for the advice.  I really don't want anymore Capital one cards.  Im not going to activate the Buy Power card.  A pre approval letter came for that card in the mail.  I did some research on this forum about the card and saw that they typically give higher limits, so I went ahead and applied thinking it would fix my problem with the Platinum...unfortunately it only made it worse.  The ideal situation would be to get the limit on the Platinum raised, but was denied that over the phone even after I explained why.

Going to try the EO email...and if anyone has a phone number for that, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you again.

CAP ONE EO is awesome! I have noever got any help from CS no matter the issue- but EO came thru everytime, I requested a CLI on 4/29 it was approved for 750  yesterday so I litterally just called back and requested another letting them know I am closing on my home (5/22) and I can't have any HP so she put file in for another manual review. Re: Capital One Recon Help

Can anyone PM me the EO number or email I applied for a cap 1 card last month and the reason I was denied the letter stated "too many past or present capital one obligations"
