Hello all,
I have a Capital QS1 and Capital One Platinum card. The Platinum card has no rewards so I thought I'd try for a card with rewards and close the platinum since I just got it in November(really interested in travel rewards). Well After reading how Chase closes accounts and gives no reason I don't think I want it anymore. I was told my app needed further review and will contact me within 10 days with results, if they happen to approve me can I call and tell them that I am no longer interested. I think I'll wait and hope to qualify for a Ventur One card or something. I just don't want to close a card because I thought I had a replacement card. I'm happy having 2 credit cards , just want good ones. 2 credit cards and 3 dept store cards, I'm good with that.
Btw my FICO when applied for chase was: EQ 651, EX 688, TU 650 and 7 month credit history with 100% on time payment history.
Keep the Cap1 Platinum card for the moment and do not think too much about the Chase account closures... accept the card if you get it and enjoy the Freedom while you can. It is a really nice card. I will not change my habits because I will never become a slave of a lender... so I enjoy my Chase cards while I can and if Chase decides to kick me out then I will sadly move further and therefore I make sure I have cards from different lenders. Just never put all eggs into the Chase basket !
You can also call CapOne and see if you can PC your Platinum to a QS... that's what I did and now I have two cards.
Thanks.
I've been tracking the Chase closures, because I don't want my Chase cards closed either.
My take on this is, Chase is trying to ensure profitability of the cards they have issued. They've tightened the tracking of certain kinds of issues, so I hope that by not stepping over those boundaries, I could be safe:
Use a rewards card like Freedom for more than just the rewards categories.
Don't buy any gift cards with the Freedom or another Chase card. That just gives them a reason to say you bought "cash equivalents". Right or wrong, that's what they see.
Also watch the number of other non-Chase cards. This one is really hard to control.
I'm planning on just enjoying the Chase cards I can get, because they do have certain benefits, but no plans to make Chase my primary CC company.
