Odd denial letter..anyone seen this before?!

BTW, I am not apping anymore, but gardening, so these are letters from old applications done a week ago.

I apped for the Sinclair Gas Card.

The letter starts out with:

"Thank you for your interest, however we cannot approve you at this time".

Then it just gets weird...

"We have found a shortage of suitable credit references".

Ok....

CRA= Credit Reporting Agency, don't feel like typing it each time.

"While this decision was based on information received from the CRA"...

"The CRA did not make the decision to take adverse action with respect to your request".

Wait...What????!

I've NEVER heard of a CRA taking ADVERSE ACTION.

The CREDITOR... In this case Sinclair Oil, makes the denials, based on info from a CRA.

The CRA does NOT make denials!

"Additionally, the CRA could not provide reasons for the denial".

Again...the CREDITOR makes DENIALS!!!

Now the weirdest part of all???

On the letter ITSELF...there is a link to go to for a "Free Cellphone".

I didn't think it was legal to advertise on a denial letter...

BTW...I looked at the letter under magnification and it appears it was not printed..but rather TYPED on a TYPEWRITER.

That's pretty weird I would find the number to their CS and give them a call to make sure that it was from them

They don't - the letter specifically says "did NOT" make the decision

Yes, that's exactly what they're saying.

They're trying to explain to you that they made the decision, and not whichever CRA they pulled. It's pretty standard language so they don't have people trying to question the CRA as to why they didn't get approved for whatever product. There are people who would see the name of the CRA in the denial and assume it was them that made the decision instead of just furnishing the data, so creditors try and make it very clear that it's them to help avoid confusion.

In other words, don't call and complain to (EX, TU, EQ) because we denied you because they won't know what you're talking about.
