Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide Discussion Thread

I've read through most of the replies but nobody seems to mention what to do in this situation...

I got my first 2 Amex cards on 6/1 and 7/1 respectively. Am I eligible to do the 3x CLI on 8/1, or do I have to wait till 9/1? Thanks.

The question has been answered - it's 61 days from account creation. If you want the cli's on your June approval it's 61 days or July's approval it's 61 days. You may only ask for one- not both. If denied its 90 days from the date of denial or 180 days from approval. Amex considers all cc's as the 'account ' not individual accounts in this situation.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide Discussion Thread

I really only applied for this CC because I wanted to see if I could finally get approved for an AMEX post BK.  I have all the "prime" CC's I need and more than enough credit.  Like my other CC's I will very rarely use or have any need for the credit available.  I'm just playing their FICO game just in case I need a car loan or a mortgage in the future. Do I need to use this card in the 61 day time period before asking for a 3X CLI??

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide Discussion Thread

Today was my 61 days & I got the 7-10. That really sucks as my Exp report is a 745 & I have not opend any cards beside the PRG charge card I got at the same time.Guess I will try again in 90 days. I did run abut 3k through it and PIF, but I owe like $200 as of right now. But I will have it paid b4 statment cuts.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide Discussion Thread

Just recieved my BCE with $3500 CL.  I'm expecting a $10,500 CL 61 days from now.  6 months later, it better be at $25K.

I reached 6 months a few days ago so I requested a CLI yesterday. I asked for a limit of $8000 which Amex countered with a $200 dollar increase taking me to a limit of $6800 from my then current limit of $6600. Declined it and figured I would sleep on it. Today I called in, told the CSR that I hate uneven credit limits, and asked if I could amend the previous request to $7000. She put in the request but told me she was still getting the same counter offer. So I took the offer and 6 months from now I will request my last CLI ever which will be for $200. That will take me to my requested $7000 and after that I will never ask any lender for an increase again. I will just let them come to me with auto increases which should happen once I graduate and start earning higher income. My income right now is only around $20,000.

If your income is $17K, then the $6800 CL is 40% of that amount.   AMEX is said to limit requested CLIs to 40% of income per revolver.

My income from my parents usually winds up being a little bit over $20K at the end of the year but I always put down $20K on apps to make it simple. So 40% would be $8K which is why I first requested that amount. The letter they sent to my email mentioned that they turned me down because of my student loans ($9,250). I have the money in my savings to pay off over half of my student loans but since the loans are subsidized I figure it's better to let that money earn some interest. I figure I can get another $200 from them in due time and then wait until I graduate.
