Last CLI was July 2013.  Tried for another in April 2014 (denied).  Tried today and was advised it was denied because 90 days has not elapsed from the April attempt.  Did I carelessly reset the clock?

No, I don't believe you did. When you app 90 days after the time when you were first denied, you will have a fair chance at the CLI at that time. Smiley Happy

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide Discussion Thread

im 21 and got my amex blue cash everyday exactly 1 year ago when i was 20 i recently asked for a credit limit increase (i started at $4,000 limit with a $25,000 income) I put in $10,000 they counter offered with $5,100. No biggie as I don't use it nearly to that amount and I have recently been approved for the PRG and will be using that almost exclusivly except on ceterain bonus categories on my discover it and chase freedom but it would have been nice to have that $10,000 limit

Amex Blue Cash Everyday: $25,000 | Navy FCU Cash Rewards: $25,000 | Discover It: $20,500
Chase Freedom: $12,500 | Citi Double Cash: $10,000 | Bank of America Cash Rewards: $8,000

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide Discussion Thread

I reached 6 months a few days ago so I requested a CLI yesterday. I asked for a limit of $8000 which Amex countered with a $200 dollar increase taking me to a limit of $6800 from my then current limit of $6600. Declined it and figured I would sleep on it. Today I called in, told the CSR that I hate uneven credit limits, and asked if I could amend the previous request to $7000. She put in the request but told me she was still getting the same counter offer. So I took the offer and 6 months from now I will request my last CLI ever which will be for $200. That will take me to my requested $7000 and after that I will never ask any lender for an increase again. I will just let them come to me with auto increases which should happen once I graduate and start earning higher income. My income right now is only around $20,000.

If your income is $17K, then the $6800 CL is 40% of that amount.   AMEX is said to limit requested CLIs to 40% of income per revolver.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide Discussion Thread

Not sure if this has been addressed but what if I moved some limits to the card I want to ask for a 3x CLI on?

I was approved for a BC for 2k on 05/2014 and shortly after I got the card, I moved 4k from another card to the BC. So now my limit on the BC is 6k.

When I ask for my CLI, how much do I ask for? 18k or 10k (2k*3+4k)? Should I just ask for 18k since I have nothing to lose as I assume they'll counter with 10k if that's all I'm eligible for?

To see softs, need to check official Experian credit report. If you have a report number handy, then you can use the same report number for upto 90 days and actually get an updated version of your credit report each time you check online! Lately my experience has been that viewing report resets the 90 day expiration too. Example I have been using the same report number that I originally had in October, because I check my reports weekly.

It used to be considered a loophole, but knowledgeable CSRs will tell you about this great Experian service.

To check your softs, go to www.experian.com and click on "View Report Again" under "Additional Services & Products -> Credit Report Assistance" or Click this to go there directly

This was great info! Thank you for sharing!

May as well ask for $18K...no harm, no foul.

Re: The Definitive Amex 3X CLI Guide Discussion Thread

I've read through most of the replies but nobody seems to mention what to do in this situation...

I got my first 2 Amex cards on 6/1 and 7/1 respectively. Am I eligible to do the 3x CLI on 8/1, or do I have to wait till 9/1? Thanks.
